These hundred year old bottles of Champagne from the Heidsieck vineyard in Champagne took over eighty
years to reach their destination. Shipped to the Russian Imperial family in 1916, a shipwreck off the coast of
Finland caused this champagne to be lost at sea until divers discovered over 200 bottles in 1997. Now they’re
finally being sold—to wealthy guests at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Moscow, at least. Of course, the wine’s extraordinary
tale and incredible age are what makes it the world’s most expensive wine.

That's awesome! Reminds me of reading Tin Tin comics when I was a kid where Captain Haddock got drunk on rum he found on a sunken pirate ship. :)

There was a similar story several years ago. A poster on a couple of wine sites wanted to know the value of several bottles of 04 and 06 Pol Roger that he was selling from the Empress of Ireland that had sunk in 1914.

Wonder if these will show up in Parker's Hedonist Gazette anytime soon...

I remember when they opened a shipwrecked bottle on the NBC morning show. So there was this bottle of Heidsick Goute American 190? and they actually opened the bottle on the air and poured a half of a small glass for each person. They did a cheers and...well let's just say the cameras didn't cut away fast enough to avoid showing them all simultaneously spitting it out on the lovely carpet. Save your money. I bet at that depth, after the pressure inside the bottle had gone, the pressure of the sea should have pushed some seawater into the bottle, but I'd like a physicist's opinion on this...
