To Everyone:
I have received almost all of the auction wines I bought to benefit the Katrina relief funds.
What amazes me more than anything is the continuous generousity of those that donate from their allocations, cellars and vineyards to help those in need. What really stuns me are the lovely and heartwarming gifts that have accompanied your donations. Oh my!
I intend to give a personal note individually, which I will still do, but the overwhelming gratiousness of all that participated is too huge to go unnoticed publically.
A small indication of the impact of our VC auction is apparent in just one of the thank-you notes I recieved which rightfully belong to all of you:
"Already three million pounds of food and supplies have been shipped to the Gulf Coast for the hurricane relief effort, with well over a million pounds shipped in the first week of September alone. Our normal distribution is about 1.3 a Month."
The humane society of Louisiana wrote to say they were sorry: "our thank you note is late, but we are now operating out of Ohio" . I wish I had allocated them more. I will probably do that without getting any wine in return

Unless I hear from Bressler.

, again.
I could go on and on. "Shades of Praise" which is one of those awesome bands that stroll the streets wrote a full page of thanks for just helping them get clothes again. Most lived in the Ninth Ward.
On and on with Salvation Army, et. al.
I guess what I am saying is that there are random acts of kindness that go on all the time. No one but those in here know that VC even thought about this catastrophe outside of our own little communtiy. It is the effort and humaneness of all of you that makes this a great place to hang out and, most importantly, a group that I am sincerely proud to know .....while learning about wine.
You are terrific people.
