Hello Everyone:

I'm a newbie to this board - it's a great place to learn about wine.

One question (basic): I've read that removing the glued labels from "New World" wines is best accomplished by putting the (empty!) bottle in a 150 degree oven for a few minutes. The glue loosens and the label can then be peeled/scrapped off.

Has anyone tried this method? I'd like to save the labels of some of the wines I've enjoyed. Thanks,

Mark

Haven't tried that method, but label off works relatively well.

Jason - thanks. Will compare Label Off with the 'oven' method.

Thanks Pete - that page is great....I've tried the soaking method. The labels on the California wines (especially) seem to be using a space-age adhesive (LOL) that makes soaking alone difficult....

Boiling water on bottles works very well on new labels.
I've tried many times, it's ok.

- soak in kitchen sink in hot water for 30 min
- some labels come right off, others don't - for those, use a razor to peel them off
- some do not respond well to that treatment (too thin, weird glue etc.), then i wait until label is dry, then apply laminate paper (much cheaper than label off, just as effective), and use razor to help peel it off.
- have about 95% success rate in removing all kinds of labels this way.
