| No posts? You guys stink.
Tonight was a 2lb tri-tip, seasoned with Bolivian Pink Salt and Chicago Chop House seasoning, mashed turnips w/parmesean, cream and lavender salt (topped w/shallots) and a cake made from cupcake mix.
Ghetto grill tip of the month - too cheap for the BGE? (I am) Use a Webber charcoal grill, but take a plastic dust pan and air the hell out of the lump wood charcoal. It gets crazy hot (you arm will get sore) and will put that perfect sear you're looking for, for a lot, lot less :-D | | | |

We like it. We only buy the plain. I think they have 2 others with some seasonings added. We use to pay $0.99 and it went up to $1.29 or so. Makes 2 thin crust pizzas for us. We've tried the dough at Whole Foods and didn't care for it. Semifreddi's (a East Bay bakery) use to carry it, which is how we got started. I would like to start making my own dough but haven't yet. Our neighbors got us started. They use to have a weekly event with their 2 boys when they were growing up (they are now both in college) where they made pizza together and then they all watched a film. Obviously the films were chosen by the kids, otherwise they wouldn't want to stick around!

| So I was reading a thread by A. DeMello over on ePantload and saw a recipe for Zuni Cafe roasted chicken. You can't post "google and read one of the tons of the threads" and not expect me to try and cook something up. And, of course, I did. The wife picked up a local raised, organic 2.5 lb chicken from Trader Joes. I'm not a big Trader Joes fan, but their local chicken is pretty good, and for $7.49, the price is right. I followed the directions and stuffed some thyme in, under the skin around the breast and thighs, and then salted down with some Bolivian pink salt and seasoned with some fresh ground pepper. Broiled at 475 and pulled out when it hit that beautiful brown color. Here's what came out - Life is good. Pairing tonight was with a 2006 J. Rochioli South River chard. I popped the cork on the bottle and poured a bit out into my glass. Nice, but needs a little bit to open up. I start cutting up the chicken and my wife has to run off to a meeting at church (leaving me with the kids). The good Lord turned the water into wine, so he can deal with me drinking a Rochioli chard. As I'm breaking down the bird, I hear "Andrew. Come here. Hurry." The wife is sitting at the bottom of our cement steps, holding her leg - "I think I broke my foot." I called a neighbor and had her come over to watch the kids. Off to the ER. It's a severe sprain and my wife is on crutches. We get home, I get the kids in bed, the wife upstairs with a plate of chicken sans chardonnay, as she's now flying high on Vikadin. Sadly, I'm left to 3/4 of a Zuni Cafe roasted chicken and an entire bottle of Rochioli chard. The next two days of ferrying kids back and forth to school, trying to hit meetings at work and actually being productive around the house is going to suck... but I'll be damned if that chicken and wine wasn't fantastic tonight. | | | |

| Nice looking chicken!
Hope the wife's foot or ankle improves quickly. I'd dump the Vicodin in favor of advil (but that's a preference) and use ice if swelling is an issue.

FYI, I bought my wife the Zuni Cafe Cookbook when it came out.
