Opened and decanted for 30 minutes (would recommend an hour) - nose is shy with hints of barnyard and cherry peeking through - palate is red fruit with cherry at the forefront - good level of acidity and enough tannins to insure aging - medium finish - a very good food wine

Decanted for about an hour - more open nose and lively palate dominated by cherry - balanced and elegant - pairs well with fish - drink now or hold for a couple of years - very good wine

Decanted for about an hour and consumed over the next hour - initially the wine showed a more tart flavor profile that dissipated during the evening - this wine can be held for another year a or two - excellent structure and balance

I just am finishing up the 00's, and am ready to jump to the 01's. Do you have a take on where the 01'a are at?

I think that the 01 Estate should be fine.  I was actually looking for a bottle of it when I happened upon the 02.   I have not had one in a while but really enjoyed prior bottles.

Thanks. The 00 Old Vines and Octagon were certainly great.

Recommend decant for about an hour - the wine opens up after that and the tartness in the mid-palate disappears - this is in a nice place right now - excellent acidity and great food wine - red fruits (cherry and raspberry) and spice - medium body with great balance - stunning

where'd you get that salmon?  do you need some more? last call!
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is...

.ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon.

With its 14.7 alcohol, I keep waiting for something bad to happen to this wine - nothing has - it is drinking beautifully now - this should go a couple more years or more.

Dehlinger Pinots (and Syrahs) seemingly age forever.  I've got about 4 cases left in my cellar (why did I drop off this list?) none of which are younger than the 2001 vintage and I'm not worried about virtually any of them going over the hill any time soon.
