I know of a certain wine app under development that might be interesting. Hopefully he will finish it soon! :) The alpha search term is always "Krug Champagne". haha

If the app included a feature that allowed me to search VinoCellar successfully, I might buy it and an iPhone

I've been using an Iphone now since July and pretty much stopped using my Netbook at home. A lot of websites don't work with Safari on the Iphone, or they are using Flash or Video. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with it. The apps that I use a lot:

CNBC - for real time stock quotes (the default Iphone app uses delayed quotes)
Iwant - for searching local movies, restaurants etc...
IBart - SF Bay Area transit schedule
Msecure - Password program
Traffic - good for freeways
Google
Wikipedia
Around Me - uses GPS for letting you know where a ATM or coffee shop is etc...
Blue Atlas 3 - letting you know what real estate is for sale in your area (or area you specify)
Mover - my wife and I can share contacts over our Wifi network

All are free except for Msecure.

I have Skype, but haven't used it. My wife has it and talks to a friend in Singapore using our Wifi.

An update of what I have found lately
GPS Drive - a very cheap and decent turn by turn navigation package for driving or walking
Eye Glasses - this is only for the 3GS (better camera) but works like a magnifying glass. Great for those tiny print menus or back labels
Zagat - if you are in to Zagat, this is a nice front end
RedLaser - does a decent job of reading bar codes and telling you what the product is and where else you might buy it.

RedLaser is fun.

My favorite productivity app is Evernote which syncs notes between the iPhone and my PCs via a web app. It is awesome while traveling to have a bunch of wine, restaurant and travel notes at hand. This is great when I do home repair projects as I have the web articles on hand when I'm in the hardware store. It's saved me trips back and forth. :)

FYI, I downloaded the Handy Level app and it was useless. I have a grandfather's clock that needs to be leveled about twice a year to keep it running (not quite sure why, perhaps humidity? vibration? the house moving?) so I tried using the app but it just wasn't accurate enough: too much play and very low sensitivity. Went back to the old bubble level from Home Depot.

yes, there are just somethings for which the platform is not quite good enough. Like trying to use the driving instructions apps without an external GPS.

Winetex, it is not an app, but I couldn't live without MobileMe
