Fun night last night at Tepper's 30th Birthday Party , I didn't make note of all the wines, but some from memory: 1997 Deloach Chardonnay, (vineyard designate, but damn if I can remember which one) MAG - holding up increadibly well, color still straw and bright, nice texture, very good. 2006 Frias Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc - Very pungent SB nose, grass, cat pee - a bit too pungent for me 2006 Frias Vineyards Rose - ok 2005 Frias Vineyards Syrah - pretty good 2006 Frias Vineyards Red Wine - ok 2002 Ramey Cabernet, Jerico Canyon MAG - excellent, drinking well now 2005 Branson Coach House Rare Single Vineyard Cabernet, Coach House Block - 18% Alc (actually 18.2 according to Michael Twelftree), but damn - seriously? You'd never know it! There's a touch of heat on the backend, but I wouldn't have guessed this past 15.5. This wine really shocked me in how damn good it was, just outstanding, and a wonderful gift from Michael on our visit to Two Hands last year. This was the 1st bottle drained 1978 Colline Cascina Bordino Gattinara Monsecco - most people didn't seem to like this too much, I dug it - great acidity, resolved tannins, fully secondary characteristics, soft, lovely (I brought this too) 1978 Produttori del Barbaresco - really terrific, pretty dark in color for a Neb of this age, terrific texture, still some nice subtle fruit, great acidity, long and broad (yes, I brought this too) 1978 Pine Ridge Cabernet - very good, holding up quite well, plenty of leather, some spice, and soft red fruit. 2001 Ritchie Creek Pinot Noir - brett bomb 2005 Fleury Cabernet - 2nd or 3rd time I've had this wine, very nice every time. 2005 Elyse Red Wine (Grenache and Syrah) - nice, but a tad hot. And Lagunitas IPA and PILS on draft, yummy! And a jager shot to toast the b'day boy - man I hate jager... I know there were more wines, I'll update if I can remember them. I think the jager shot created a hole in my head where some memories used to be |
