Hubby guessed this as Oregon Pinot Noir blind so it lived up to its reputation as a "Burgundian" CDP.  This was a pleasurable wine to drink last night that should improve with age.

In the $40 range this is a killer deal for a delightful CDP.  Note that it was not a wine that smacks you in the head with power.  But if you like balance, aromatics and food compatibility check this one out.  Unfortunately it is ~$60 in some markets such as Austin.  Mine came from CA. Check around.

Clear medium ruby in color; Spice and floral aromas with very pure strawberry, cherry, garrigue, and earth flavors. Complex and balanced. In this stage this wine was very reminiscent of Pinot Noir with an earthiness in the foreground. This young CDP should develop complexity with bottle age. Well-priced for a quality wine at ~$40. 91+ with potential. [Opened up after a 30 minute decant] (91 pts.)

Winetex, thanks for the note. I've recently ordered the 2004 and 2005 due to some TN's and it's reputation at being Burgundian. Sounds like it lived up to the billing.

The 2001 is also excellent. Thanks for the notes!

Domaine Charvin CDP's are definitely amongst my favorites... agree with jaimetown on the 2001... the vintage I started on for CDP's.

If you drink wine, you get smarter....

Restrained - Elegant or a bit shut down? Red fruits, spice, floral notes, but all very restrained on the nose. On the palate it's all there, but just barely. Not much in the mid-palate and really no finish. My 1st Charvin so I can't say if this restrained nose and palate are part of the reason I hear so many call it a Burg lovers CDP or if its just closed down?

Hard to say what was going on. I hope they aren't shutting down because I think this wine in this vintage will be a drinker not a long-term ager. Compared to some of the "big boy" CDPs with lots of extraction and alcohol it might not stand out. Hopefully your other bottles will be better for you.

There was nothing wrong with the bottle, just very subdued flavors and not much of a feel or finish. Hopefully the other bottles flesh out. I'm a big fan of spice and meat in my CDP's, especially with a lush feel and finish. This didin't have any of that so maybe it's just not my cup of tea. Recently loved the 2003 Bois de Boursan, 2000 and 2001 Vieux Donjon, and 1999 Beaucastel.
