Brad, I really thought this would get better over time, but the search feature is pretty close to unusable.  If I just use the search box on the upper right, I get a google search.  If I click the "search" link, I get a more traditional search, where I can indicate the forums.  However, the ordering of the results is, as near as I can tell, completely random.  One would expect a reverse date-sorted list, ie the most recent at the top of the results.

Similarly, when I click view posts by user, I am probably more interested in their recent posts rather than their ancient posts from 2004, etc.

Perhaps an "order by" clause is called for?

I searched for a wine yesterday. I put in "Aubert" and the results came in "alphabetically" by year and then vineyard. I thought, at least that one time, it was pretty cool.

Of course the best would be to have them listed alphabetically by height.

I think it's time that we pull our '61 Bordeaux from our cellars and our 100pt SQNs and see if we can raise $187 for a new interface for this site.  The "new" beta product just isn't working.  Search is a joke.

Search is a joke...when I'm at home on my Mac. If I'm at work and use my PC it seems to be okay. Any thoughts on how to improve this? I would really like to be able to use the search at home on my Mac.

Best option is to use Firefox on your Mac

So, for a few searches lately I have actually opened Firefox instead of using my norm of Safari. When I search it doesn't just pull up VC, but the whole of the internet. I was searching for any Dehlinger PN notes today and the first thing pulled up was from VC, the next two pages were from all over the internet(cellartracker, winesearcher etc). Is that the norm???

Well, there are actually THREE different ways to Search for things on VinoCellar... this way I cover all the bases, and each person can choose which method or combination of methods works best for them.

In the "Wine Search" tab above (next to the Wine Education tab), I have running a Google search which searches only Wine Sites that I've chosen (and Vinocellar users themselves can submit more sites to search as well if they like).  So you'll get relevant results from Vinocellar and other wine sites.

In the upper right hand corner of the site is a Grey search box.  This is another Google search, which Searches the Entire Web for content.Â

The last search, is the "Search" LINK that is on the Wine Forums page, near the upper right hand side of the forums.
This Search ONLY SEARCHES VINOCELLAR FORUMS.  It's fast and has a few options for filtering the search.   However, it does not sort by date yet, as has been requested by others.Â

I'd try all three searches, to see which one works best for you.

Oops, I had to update the Grey Search and what it does.. seems I forgot. :-)
