| | OK, something must have changed. Today, every thread took me to the first post. (Then, of course, if I went back, it was to the first unread one.) Did you zero out the data base or clear some flag? | | | |

| Posted By Dave on 07/02/2007 8:41 PM This is actually different to the faulty "jump to first unread post" thing. If you want to give it a whirl, go to edit your profile and look for "Sort". It is above the jump to first unread post box. Chose "Sort Newest First" from the drop down menu.Â
Thanks for the info, Dave, but it's really not what I'm looking for. Sorting by newest first doesn't tell you where you last left off. The jump to newest post feature is a 'must have' for a BB like this. The lack of it is one of the many things that makes eBob suck so bad.
The old software here handled unread posts just about flawlessly.

| | Budman, you are correct. This is only a partial fix.  The saving grace though is that traffic is so light that it is rare to find a thread where I don't at least end up on the same page. | | | |

| | Too funny. I just clicked in this thread and it took me to the first post on the first page. | | Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

Dave,  Sad but true. ==============================
"The lack of it is one of the many things that makes eBob suck so bad."
Bud,  On eBob there is a little triangle that points down right in front of the title of each thread. Clicking on this triangle will take you to the newest unread post.

We need this fixed asap please.

| This is crazy. I posted about an hour ago on several threads. Then I see others have posted after me so I want to check it out. Every single one of these threads took me to the top page 1 of the thread.
I'm depressed. | | | |

Come on Brad, this is pretty basic stuff.

| I am very discouraged!
What I don't really understand is why it is intermittent during the same session. I'd guess that it doesn't work over 75% of the time.
Is there something that I can do differently?
Is there any hope that this can be fixed ever?

| I thought I had developed a pattern but alas it didn't hold water. My first thought was that if you've never visited the thread since the migration then you'll always be taken to the first post of the thread. Period. That does seem to happen from what I can tell. However, I was just taken to the first post of the Washington DC thread which was numped 40 days ago and I know I saw Jimmy's bump. So now I'm thinking not only is it an issue of when you last visited the thread it's also a cookie issue. If your cookie has been cleared since then (my were manually cleared, many are cleared automatically after 30+days by your browser) then poof! Back to the first post you go. There's also a minor variant theory going on here that if you click twice in error (slow sight performance) bam! You go to the first page in error. Add it all up and it equals a frustrating browsing experience.

| | Joe... I visited a brand new thread for the second time in a single day. My second browse STILL took me to the first post... all in one day. Frustrating! | | | |

| | For me there are worse problems (search function). The software always takes me to the page of the thread that has the last unread post. I can live with having to scroll up or down a post or two. | | | |

And I just wrote a fairly long post for the What I'm Drinking thread, hit submit, and it disappeared forever.
I'm giving up for now. If we get this fixed let me know. I would really like to be on the forum more than any other.
I'll be around.

| | I think I recall Brad saying that the last read position was stored in a database, not cookies. Maybe access to that database is asynchronous? or slow? or has lock problems? Probably switching back to cookies is outside the scope of what Brad can change. At the risk of being flamed, I would just assume go back to the original software. | | | |
