| I have just heard some good news I thought I'd share. The pending forums upgrade has some significant improvements... The first I'll mention here is a completely restructured search functionality... it should be more flexible and a faster. When I get the update, I'll install on beta.vinocellar.com for a bit, and once I'm happy and there are no major bugs I'll roll it into production. I'm also hoping the Login Problem (where the cookie explodes and forces you to re-login every so often) will be fixed as well. Thanks for everyone's continued patience... | |

| I've been helping the developer test a pre-release of the new forum software (nice upgrade really), trying to help him iron out the final bugs. Some good news:
Display Name now works correctly. (rather than using a combination of First Name and Last Name)
Search is literally 100 times faster (using Full-text indexing on the backend SQL Server now)
Search does search post Subjects as well as post bodies.
Search has better option for searching a specific forum
Search might actually be about 200 times faster... (really fast compared to the current solution!!!)
With the new theme/skin, the buttons are bigger, easier to see, etc.
For New Posts and Replies, etc. a new editor with more features, functions, and compatbility with more browsers is being used.
The new editor has a "preview" button... along with it being WYSIWYG....
Lastly... I'll be implementing the new "Mail Connector" to the forums. If you recieve a "subscribed email" of a new post in a forum, you can just reply to the email and it will be posted to the forum automatically without ever going to the website. This is very cool !!
It seems the new software is going to RTM (released for public consumption in this case) next week. Since I've already been testing it however, I should be able to update the core and roll out the new forums all at once fairly quickly.

| Oh, and lastly... the NEW POST FOLDERS FINALLY WORK !!!!!!
So this will help everyone see where the new posts are.... and it's accurate across multiple computers because this information is held in the database, not in local cookies. | |
