Would it make sense to remove all the names from the user list that have not posted a single post, going back 1 to 3 years and allow that name to be used again by new members? I have noticed that there are alot of names, but no activity on a lot of them. Any thoughts about this?

Thanks for the post. I can't really say I've thought about it however. Is 1300 names really that many?

Not as many as you would like, just think if all of them were active? I would have to think that many of them have forgot their password (which is really easy to get back) or have forgotten all about VC. Just a thought.

Just because someone doesn't post doesn't mean that they don't participate on VC. Lurkers participate all the time. We should not remove their name from the user list simply because they choose to lurk rather than post.

It does seem to make sense to set a timelimit for non-use of a name, though. If someone hasn't posted in a year, I don't think it is a radical approach to remove their name from the active member list.

I don't think it makes any difference unless you're paging through the user list.

Leave it the way it is.

I know a couple of lurkers that never want to post. They are signed up so that they can get the "new and post""last post read" features. I would hate to shut them down.

But just because someone hasn't posted doesn't mean they are not active. I consider lurking being active.

Brad: Is there any way to run stats on users who don't post to see if they even lurk?

Brent, not really... at least, not without a lot of effort.

At this point I don't feel I'll be doing anything, but will keep the suggestion in mind.
