| I've noticed that I am able to view a member's profile, even when I am not logged into the system. I would think that members would only want other registered members to view this information, i.e. name and email address, and not have this information "available" to the general public. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

| If you don't want it available, then you don't have to post it in the first place. | | | Cheers, y'all | |

| If this was a private forum, that'd be the preference, but this is a public forum where registration is free. All one needs to do is register, so no need to make everything private. | | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |

What he said. I have no problem letting others see what I choose to type in my profile. | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| On my own profile I have next to nothing listed, as I've grown paranoid as I age. However, there's a member on the site, a woman, and I happened to click on her handle, and it showed her name, email address and city that she lives in. I was thinking of her privacy rather than mine. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

My point is that the member profile is viewable WITHOUT registering. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

| Yes, Tanglenet, but nobody'd want to mess with her, as she's one tough lady ... she packs a gun and knows how to use it! | | | Cheers, y'all | |

| The only thing you "need" to register IMO is one's real name and the city one lives in. That's what shows up on the board with your avitar. I like to know where people are from for possible off-line thingies.
I'd like to see these two things as mandatory. It is on ebob.
There is absolutely no need for one to put their email address here. We have a great "pm" system that works well. This system cannot be used by one that is not registered.

My sentiments exactly - I'd love to see this turned into a "real names" board.

| I don't care about the real name. I do like knowing where people are from! | | | |

| A lot of people don't want to do that. With the real name and city, people can be located and their privacy is not private anymore. I'm sure loads of names on ebob are fake. | | | |

| Though my user name is close to my real name, I am still not in favor of real name boards. Anything posted under a real name is indexable and searchable through Google. I would prefer my postings not be available under my real name when people search me out, whether there is any controversy in the post or not.
This is one of many reasons I rarely post on eBob.
