Last night KillerB came out to DC from his business trip in Reston, VA for a dinner at Palena Restaurant.  The food was absolutely spot-on, as it was one of the best I've had at the restaurant (and it is always top notch)!  Sorry we missed you TJ, hope your bro is doing better today.

What we ordered:

First Course
Nantucket Bay Scallops
Poached in passion fruit and Myer lemon juices In a salad with crudites and roasted beets

Morue
Salt cod, pan roasted With creamy brandade risotto Piperade

Main Courses
Shaffer Farms Venison Chop and Our Own Andouille Sausage
Italian grass pea puree, cardoons, and a sauce made from prunes and armagnac

A Duck dish that KillerB ordered

Dessert
Chestnut and Pear Tart
Chocolate sorbet

Banana Chocolate Cream Pie
Exotic caramel sauce

I had the Morue/Venison/Banana Chocolate Pie and it was a perfect trifecta.  The food was some of the best I've had all year anywhere.

I brought a bottle of Moccagatta 1998 Barbaresco Basarin and KillerB logged a bottle of the 2005 Dead Arm Shiraz and both bottles drank beautifully.

KB, it was a great pleasure to meet you and talk football (the English kind) and wine and everything in between!  Enjoy the rest of your trip and see you around online!Â

Equally great to meet you Jaimetown.

Both wines showed up beautifully. Shame we couldn't take the dregs away. Next time I'm in DC I'm bringing splits and a funnel.

Food was absolutely divine. The scallops were incredibly tender and the duck superb. The tart was a great way to finish and I want a bucket of that chocolate ice-cream.

Trust me I was willing but Jaimetown was driving, so the conversation could have got indecypherable for one of us. He did me the favour of driving me to Vienna, and I didn't even notice the Germanic accents.

I think that you know that I can kill a bottle, young headbanger.
