| Had the pleasure of doing a Burgundy tasting, both whites and reds. Here are the results:
Flight 1 - Whites - Wine 1 - Bright yellow, almost clear in color. Nice fruity, citrus nose. Slightly tart to taste with hints of pear.
- Wine 2 - Golden yellow in color. Very nutty, praline, peanut brittle nose. On the palate: fresh oranges.
- Wine 3 - Golden yellow in color. Very perfumy, fruity nose. Smelled somewhat hot to me. Taste: tart, Granny Smith Apple.
- Wine 4 - Light yellow in color. Herbal, almost mint like nose. Ripe pear on the palate.
Wine 1 - 1999 Joseph Drouhin Domaine de Vauds Chablis Wine 2 - 1997 Meursault - Perrieres (My No. 1) Wine 3 - 2000 Meursault - Perrieres - Michel Coutoux (Wine of the Flight) Wine 4 - 1999 Morey St. Denis Blanc
Flight 2 - Reds - Wine 1 - Bright ruby red. Smelled like strawberries. Somewhat tart and tannic.
- Wine 2 - Bright ruby red. Bretty with a little fruit hiding underneath. Very tannic and tart.
- Wine 3 - Bright ruby red. Very bright, fresh fruity smell. Fresh Strawberries. Very nicely balanced.
- Wine 4 - Berry red in color. Nice fruit and oak blend on the nose. Tart fruit with tannin.
Wine 1 - 1999 Savigny les Beaune - Albert Morot Wine 2 - 2001 Ata Ragni Martinborough Pinot Noir (ringer) Wine 3 - 1999 Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cellier aux Moines, Domaine Joblot (Wine of the Flight and My No. 1) Wine 4 - 2001 Joseph Druhin Cotes de Nuits-Villages
Flight 3 - Reds - Wine 1 - Medium ruby red. Nice, big fruity nose with lots of cherry and some bacon fat. Tart cherry on the palate.
- Wine 2 - Medium ruby red. Some oak and fruit on the nose. Nicely balanced palate.
- Wine 3 - Medium ruby red. Soft muted fruits. Tart cherry fruit on the palate.
- Wine 4 - Medium ruby red. Not much fruit, but some spice. A little anise. Tightly tannic and tart.
Wine 1 - 1999 Julienas Grand Reserve (My No. 1) Wine 2 - 1998 Nuits St. George Les Boudots (Wine of the Flight) Wine 3 - 1998 DRC Grande Echezeaux Wine 4 - 1995 Gervey Chambertin
Flight 4 - Reds - Wine 1 - Light ruby red. Cherry, tobacco and tea on the nose. Nicely balanced palate.
- Wine 2 - Light ruby red. Nice berry notes. Mostly balanced with some cherry tartness.
- Wine 3 - CORKED
- Wine 4 - Light ruby red. Bacon fat with strawberry nose. Apple tartness on the palate.
- Wine 5 - (replacement for Wine 3) Medium ruby color. Bretty nose with some hidden fruit. Ripe apple on the palate.
Wine 1 - 1999 Chateau de Mercey Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune (My No. 1) Wine 2 - 2000 Corton Pougets Grand Cru Wine 3 - CORKED - 1995 Gervey Chambertin - Phillipe Rossignol Wine 4 - 1997 Joseph Druhin Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru Wine 5 - 2000 Bourgogne Roncevie Domaine Arlaud (Wine of the Flight)
WINE OF THE NIGHT - 1999 Givry 1er Cru Clos du Cellier aux Moines, Domaine Joblot
The weird thing about this tasting is that it was done double blind. No one knew what wines were in what flight and yet they were all matched up pretty well. Especially when it came to the color of the reds. It was pretty amazing. | | | |

| | Nice notes. I wish someone would do a Burgundy tasting around here. I did hear that there is a Burgundy dinner with Clive Coates here sometime in March. | | | |
