Cool! This seems as good a place as any for my first installment of tasting notes, as posted over on Wine Spectator just a minute ago:

Wow, what a weekend of wine! Many thanks to King & Queen of Hearts for the tremendous job organizing this huge and hugely successful event, you could not have done a better job of it. It is truly amazing and inspiring that such wonderful people would converge from all points of the U.S. and Canada share in this passion. It was wonderful seeing familiar faces from previous offlines, and meeting many new and wonderful people.

So, to the notes. Thankfully I was not alone in taking notes, so I am glad the many holes and incomplete or incoherent areas of my notes will be balanced by others such as Futuronic, Vino Me, and many more (I hope!).

First Installment:
Friday, 7/11 – Dinner @ Gabrielle’s, wines listed in no particular order

(Saturday and Sunday notes still to come)

2001 Domaine Weinbach Gewürztraminer Cuvee Theo
Tremendously exuberant nose showing floral and spice notes, along with sweet lychee. On the palate this is rich, vibrant, and viscous without being in the least cloying. Tons of sweet fruit lend an impression of almost some residual sugar, though it is most certainly dry or virtually so. Excellent long finish, 92 points.

1999 Zind Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Turkheim
A bit more restrained and than the flamboyant Weinbach above, this showed more mineral and earthy notes. Still rich with good weight and a fine medium finish. 90 points.

1998 Pelorus Sparkling wine (New Zealand)
Tremendous nose showing sweet tropical fruit, citrus, and bread/yeasty notes. Medium bead, and good weight on the palate, a fine and intriguing bubbly. 92 points.

1999 Marc Colin Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vide Bourses
Very steely, mineral palate, lean with nice spice notes, but a tad thin on the mid-palate. 88 points.

1999 Siduri Pisoni Pinot Noir
Pisoni is rapidly becoming one of my favorite PN vineyards in California, and this wine did not disappoint. Tremendous sweet, spicy nose showing dark cherries and a touch of chocolate. Tremendously extracted with just a ton of sweet fruit on the huge palate, yet finely balanced. Not for long cellaring, drink this while it is young and that primary fruit dominates. 92 points.

1999 Biale Monte Rosso Zinfandel (a Black Chicken imposter )
Didn’t take much in the way of notes, just spicy, blackberry, rich, and damn fun – what a wine!

1999 Erich Russell Stagecoach Merlot
eh? Never heard of them, but ended up seeking this out at Martin’s Wine Cellars the next day and enjoyed with lunch. Great QPR on this nicely extracted, well balanced Merlot. Soft berry notes, a touch of leather, the aroma lingers in the nose and the palate is long and full, with a medium finish. 91 points.

1988 Ridge York Creek Devil’s Hill Petite Sirah
Excellent dark red color, with nary a hint of bricking, this baby is still going strong. Soft red fruits, brush, spice, and plum on the nose lead to a mouthful of soft supple tannins and sturdy acidity. A very nice medium long finish. 93 points, drink over the next 4 or 5 years.

1993 Heneshke Mt. Edelstone Shiraz
Wow, one of the wines of the night for, this was an outstanding treat. Beautiful nose showing clear bright fruit of dark cherries and plum. Outstanding depth and complexity on the palate with layers of sweet fruit, soft and sexy, the tannins are wonderfully integrated and smooth. A fine long finish provides caps the experience, 95 points.

1997 Peter Lehmann “The Mentor”
Another wow, these Aussies were drinking just beautifully. Sweet berries, spice, and chocolate on the nose lead to a palate that is rich and silky , with excellent depth of fruit and a long lingering mouthful. Just not quite as complex as the Henshke, 93 points.

1995 Kenwood Cabernet, Jack London Vineyard
Very nice nose of plum, cassis, and spice, with soft well integrated tannins. Maybe lacks a bit of acidity? Turns a tad thin on the mid-palate, and finishes fairly short. 89 points.

1999 Hanna Bismark Ranch Zinfandel
Disclaimer: I brought this wine, and loving it as I do I am probably just a tad biased. YUM! Full rich nose showing toasty American oak, caramel, and spice. Gobs of sweet fruit in this jammy, yet impeccably balanced Zinfandel, this is the kind of wine to sip with a smile on your face, great stuff. 94 points, drink now.

2001 Oliver Hill Jimmy’s Section Shiraz
Excellent nose, showing nice plum, spice, and pepper notes. On the palate the acid seems just a touch out of balance (high), and it’s a bit ‘hot’. A little time in the bottle should improve this marginally, but for now it’s a solid 90 points.

1999 Morlanda Priorat
Lovely elegant nose showing anise, cherries, and ripe berries. Excellent balance and acidity, with smooth unobtrusive tannins and a medium finish. An excellent wine made even better with food, 92 points.

1999 T-Vine Petite Syrah
I continue to be impressed with everything T-Vine produces – immediately accessible wines, yet containing the staying power to cellar for the short term. Rich, spicy, and jammy, this flamboyant Petite shows ripe dark berries, and anise on a frame of firm tannins. Could benefit from a few more years rest, but probably not more than five, 91 points.

2001 Mitolo G.A.M. Shiraz
Oh yea! Here’s a bomb, huge extracted nose showing blueberries and cream. Full and rich with layers of sweet, succulent fruit held up by nicely structured tannins and acidity. Great stuff, 93 points, drink over the next 203 years.

1997 Domaine Des Salmades Chateauneuf-du-Papes
A soft, fruity, and very approachable CdP, with light tannins, cherry, and leather notes. A very nice CdP for immediate drinking. 88 points.

2001 Harford Dina’s Vineyard Zinfandel
Deep dark, clear red in color, the nose could be nothing other than a Zin, with those characteristic brambly, spicy notes along with a touch of pine forest. Intense, yet well lanced fruit with rich smooth tannins, Hartford shows here that their short but fine reputation is justly deserved. Drink now-2005, 92+ points.

1997 Spring Mnt. Cabernet
A high-tones Cab that is mostly closed down right now. Seems to have all the required components to emerge from this slumber with boisterous fruit and fine tannins, but for nose it’s giving up little. No rating given.

1995 Chapoutier La Sizeranne Hermitage
Wow, this is still so young – really needs a lot more time. Rustic and earthy, with a touch of menthol, this is hard and unforgiving on the palate. 86? Points.

1998 Cave de Tain l’Hermitage Nobles Rives
Wow, beautiful huge, complex nose with concentrated fruit, earth, and dry herbs (think herbs du Provence). Slightly drying tannins on the palate, but nice concentration of black fruits. Black pepper comes through on the palate, along with dry spices (oregano). 93 points, drink 2006-2012.
1997 Ridge Dynamite Hill Petite Sirah
Excellent nose showing brambly fruit and distinct smoky notes, along with plum. Rich and vibrant, with firm tannins and a long finish. Needs some time, but sure is tasty now – 92 points.

2000 Annie’s Blend
Ok Queen, you asked for notes? You got it. You’re going to have to ‘splain this one though
Nice spicy nose showing plum and brambly notes. Rich, with good tannic structure and overall fine balance, a tasty blend that I wouldn’t mind on my table any day of the week. 88 points.

1994 Grahams Vintage Port - tasted and loved it, but no notes taken (I have a really hard time evaluating young Port).

Good notes Eric - I realized I missed most of the wines in the back room on Friday evening due to the crowd.

You should have joined us. It was a truly incredible wine weekend. Maybe next time -- if there is a next time.

Winetex

Yes indeed, the wine was everywhere (having 2 seating halves in the restaurant). If you didn't get up and swim with the rest of the wine sharks you would have missed some.

BTW, there was also a mag of 2000 Patz&Hall Hyde chard there on Sunday (missing from your list).

Lafon

You take a wonderful picture.

I'm lucky I got half of the wines listed. Adverse conditions and all that...as in I was drinking and writing.
