1997 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino

I haven't been as happy with mine...  they were running 86-87pts for me lately.  Wonder how much variation there is with Banfi.

I was happy with my Banfi BdMs but felt they had been abused in handling. I think that happens quite a bit with Italian wines.

This was my first 97 Banfi out of my cellar and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised based on what I've been reading lately. win was at the same tasting and also rated it 91 points.

I'm certainly pleased yours was that good... perhaps I'll get lucky with the rest of mine. I bought a bunch based on the early scores it was getting and easy availability.

I too was at the SWILL tasting but rated the wine a little bit lower at 89.  Having tasted with WIML and win many times, my rating is in line with the difference in our preferences.  The Banfi holds out the promise of a 92 point wine but for me, it lacked a bit of cohesivess which I chalk up to needing a bit more bottle age.

Here's to the corkscrew - a useful key to unlock the storehouse of wit, the treasury of laughter, the front door of fellowship, and the gate of pleasant folly.
