KSC02 DOES DALLAS, PART 2 - Daniele Osteria, Dallas, TX (2/16/2008)

  • N.V. Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé - France, Champagne
WIML91. Light salmon to rose petal color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of raspberries and rose petals. Flavors of raspberries, strawberries and cherries. Bright acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. (91 pts.)
  • 1985 Salon Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne
WIML93. Yellow to dark yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Hint of sherry on the nose with some toasted hazelnuts and cookie dough. Light sherry notes on the palate with some haxelnut. Vibrant acidity, full bodied. Drink now. (93 pts.)
  • 1998 Château Lynch-Bages Blanc - France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Contrôlée
WIML90? Maybe 89? Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Floral nose with some additional notes of diesel and believe it or not...chaulking. Flavors of citrus fruits dominate with some light notes of cinnamon. Light to medium acidity and body. Drink now. (90 pts.)
  • 2005 Didier Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé Pur Sang - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
WIML93+ Straw color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of grapefruit dominates on this youthful wine with additional notes of wet grass and orange zest. Flavors of grapefruit and limes with some light notes of gooseberries. Vibrant acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. Drinking right about 93 points in my book right now but a + sign for improvement. This might eclipse the 2005 Silex with more bottle age that we tasted side by side at this tasting. (93 pts.)
  • 2005 Didier Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé Silex - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
WIML94. Straw to light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose very similar to the 2005 Pur Sang but more "elegant". Notes of grapefruit and wet grass. Flavors of grapefruit, limes and oranges. "Soft" on the palate. Medium to vibrant acidity, medium body. Drink or hold. (94 pts.)

WIML92? Purple color in the glass, slightly opaque color in the glass. Nose of melted black licorice, smoke and white pepper. Flavors of black licorice and black cherries. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium to full body. Drink or hold. (92 pts.)
  • 1991 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley

WIML94. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of thistle, smoke and rich dark fruits. Flavors of black cheries, a hint of dark currants and some juicy plum. Medium acidity and tannins, medium to full bodied. Good balance here. Drink or hold. (94 pts.)
  • 1990 Château Calon-Ségur - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
WIML91. Purple color in the glass, slightly opaque. Hint of barnyard up front with some notes of coffee and roasted plums. Flavors of black licorice, plums and cherries. Medium to vibrant acidity, firm tannins, medium to full body. Can be drank now with some time in the decanter but probably should be held a little longer. (91 pts.)
  • 2004 Descendientes de José Palacios Bierzo Corullon San Martin - Spain, Castilla y León, Bierzo
WIML90. Decanted about 2 hours before serving. Crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Perfume like nose plus some balsa and white pepper notes. Later some stewed fruits. Flavors of berries and cherries with a hint of bitters on the finish. Medium acidity, firm tannins, medium to full body. I'd recommend holding another year to two years before trying again. (90 pts.)
  • 1998 Penfolds Grange - Australia, South Australia
