Eight winos met at the home of FreeTheGrapes on Monday, April 18th for an evening tasting the wines of the Northern Rhone. FTG provided most of the wines from his cellar, with a few bottles being thrown in ahead by others from their cellars. The wines were not paired with dinner, though there were some appetizers, cheeses and finger foods available for those who wanted a little bit to eat. Also, some bread and crackers were provided as palate cleansers in between the flights.

We have been getting together monthly at FTG's home to taste the wines of various regions. The first tasting was held in December and focused on wines of the Loire (I missed that tasting). In January. we had a tasting of Left Bank Bordeaux. February focused on Right Bank Bordeaux (my notes were left at FTG's home, and ended up in the garbage can). March focused on Southern Rhones (notes to come).

All flights were arranged by FTG, and all of the decanting (as he felt necessary) was also done by him. The wines were tasted in the following flights:

White Northern Rhones: Unfortunately, I cannot find my sheet with notes on these wines. I do remember there were three white wines. Maybe davidandrose can chime in if he still has his list.

2001 Jean-Louis Chave Offerus (St. Joseph)
2001 Dumien-Serrette Cornas Vielles Vignes
2001 Domaine de Remizieres "Cuvee Christophe" Crozes Hermitage

1996 Domaine A. Dervieux-Thaize Cote Rotie 'La Viaillere'
1998 Jean Paul and Jean Luc Jamet Cote Rotie

1998 Chapoutier Hermitage la Sizeranne
1999 Delas Freres Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette

Sweet wine after the tasting:

2003 Domaine Durban Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

May 2005 will feature the red wines of Burgundy.

Now if only I could find the Southern Rhone notes, and the Loring dinner notes. I know I brought them here with me. I am really afraid they may have accidentally ended up in the trash.

I;ve got my Loring and Loring/Bonancorsi (Adega) notes, but I too am missing the Rhone notes. Sorry I cant help on the whites but can probably help paste together some of the others. The Loring Dinner notes really got jaded once Rose and I walked into the dining room and saw something like 30 bttls for 13 people.....and it was a Thursday night!!!!
