| Last monday night, 8.9, I attended a tasting including all of the wines from theReynolds Family Winery. Steve Reynolds, owner and winemaker, was in town to taste through the wines and talk about the wines and winemaking in Napa.
Steve was an interesting speaker and very straightforward about winemaking. I would describe their wines as very balanced with a sense of place and purity of fruit. They use mostly French oak and the wines are decently priced. They make Cabs, Pinot Noirs, a chardonnay and a couple of other wines they are experimenting with including a sparkling wine. The wines are good quality across the board.
At the very end Steve talked about a wine that they made that is not yet for sale. Apparently he had a friend that was killed in a tractor accident in a vineyard last year. He and his friend had an idea to create a Cab that used grapes from all of the 13 Napa appellations. In tribute to his friend they have just bottled the wine, appropriately called "13". The 2001 "13" is a blend of approximately 65% cab, 20% cab franc and 15% merlot. After some begging we were able to taste it and were not disappointed. I would like to buy this.

| | How did you like the mustard flower labels? The first and second release only, I think. All hand-done, one-of-a-kind. Beautiful. | | | |

| | I like the labels. Very unique. They still do the hand-crafted labels for their Estate Reserve cab (which I forgot to do a TN on). Mrs. Reynolds picks the flowers and does the labels for these. They only produce 420 six packs of that wine. Steve Reynolds said they have people drive by and ask them , "where are the mustard plants?" | | | |
