David - I will be two. That is an interesting sentence :-P

I take it this is a "whatever you want to bring" kind of smorgasbord. Drew, you're bringing a Pinot, I think I will bring a white and a red. White is likely to be an Aubert, Red will be a mystery... I might bring an Araujo of some kind.

I made the reservation through OpenTable and figured I'd call Diane this evening around 5:00pm before the rush.  But...

About a half-hour ago the phone rings.  I never answer the phone because 99% of the calls are for Tricia but for some reason I look at the caller ID.  It says "Eric Tosh".  I think-who is Eric Tosh.  I know that name from somewhere.  I answer it.  It's Diane on the phone (Eric Tosh is her husband).

She is excited we are coming and we don't have to worry about the one-bottle limit per couple.  She says that Eric has quit his job (head chef for Eulipia  and Valeriano's).  She says that they haven't announced it yet but Eric is joining her;  they're going to be a mom and pop restaurant (her words).

Anyway...  bottom line...  Eric is going to cook for us and Diane will be our server (so to speak).  She also said if there is something special we want just say so.  I'm thinking we order the entree off the menu and then put ourselfs in her hands for everything else.  She'll make us up some small-plates if we want.  She is laughing away and really excited that we're coming so save your appitite for dinner tomorrow night and we'll have a blast.

BTW, she'll have our table set with three glasses each so there is no need to bring our own stems unless you want more than three.

I'll bring at least one white and something with the initials SQN on it.  I thought, just for Drew, that I may call her tomorrow and ask her to prepare us some Chile Verde.  That would make a great pairing with a little Sauterne, no?

I'm ready!

If you can pair ANY wine with Chile Verde, I'd be impressed. We've got El Burro on the docket for Monday night, so I'll let you know how they compare:-D

I've got this trip packed up and am working on the Barcelona suitcase as we speak, while watching UNC get annihilated. Didn't have a chance to hit Salumi this week - it was quarter end and I'm out for 4 weeks now, so I was chained to my desk... bah. Can't tell you how pumped I am to come down and see the gang again! Dinner sounds like it's going to be a blast; I've eaten at Eulipia and Valeriano's several times back in the day, and I never went away unhappy! I'll eat whatever they put in front of me as long as I can split with the Visa! Jeff (my old manager at EY) is traveling and flying in for dinner, so assuming everything is still ok on his end.

See you tomorrow!

With what David?  I can't believe of all people you misspelled Sauternes.  Its ok though, I will still share wine with you again.

Sounds fun, wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. How come no one does off lines on Wednesdays and Thursdays?

Jason,

I didn't spell it wrong.  I figure the wine to pair with Chile Verde is a little Sauterne...  from Fresno.  Maybe I did spell it wrong;  does it have an "e" at the end?  I mean like "Verde" has an "e" at the end.

Joe,

We're really pushing the envelope with eight people. Crimson is a tiny place with less than 40 tops and we'll take up at least two seatings. Sunday night is a fairly busy night so we are lucky to be able to have a table for eight.

Sorry. Next time.

Thx for for putting this all together. I had a fantastic time last night and, as always, the food and company was amazingly good. I'm still laughing that it took an hour and a half to actually order dinner :-D

Thanks for setting this up.  The Bald Avenger had a great time.

I feel a new screen name coming on.

Randy, good to see you again.

Andrew, it's always fun my friend.
