| Mark Neal , and the Neal winemaker Gove Celio as well as Michael Browne of Kosta- Browne are coming to DC for a charity event at the French Embassy on April 29. We are planning on having a dinner the night before at Charlie Palmers , and we're looking to see who among the Cru are up for a fun night of food and wine. Non Crudites are also welcome but there is a size limit on the room of 20 and we already have 8. I'll know more about costs in a few days and in the meantime if anyone is interested let me know. Micheal will bring some of his wines and I would imagine Neal will as well and maybe we can supplement. | | |

It was a little under 3 hours on the Acela. I think that makes it 3.40ish regular. (The time difference was more between NYC and Boston, iirc -- I had to do that a few times.)
Driving is anything depending upon traffic, but in no traffic it is makable in under 4 hours. I think the distance is about 250 miles.

Whiner's right mostly...2h49m for the Acela and ranging from 3h10m to 3h24m for the slower regional trains. The regional trains go for about $80-ish each way, the Acela is double to a little more than double that. But, the train is relaxing and extremely convenient -- no gas, no tolls, no traffic and it drops you off right at Union Station and you can hop right on the Metro from there! | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| The heck with the METRO, just walk the 3 or 4 blocks down Louisiana Ave and there it is at the corner of LA and Constitution. Right across from the Capital | | | |

| I'm out for both of these now. I had to move the closing on my house to the 29th which puts me in Boston that weekend. | | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson | |

| There will be another, smaller, dinner on Thursday, April 27th at the Oval Room. The chef is going to plan the menu around the wines. Right now it looks like it is over-subscribed, but I will post if some spots are available. I plan to have a flight of over-the-hill '84-86 cabs for comparison. | | | |

| There are two seats left-- Gove and Mark are bringing 6 bottles of Neal's good stuff including some Zin and would like for us to fill in the gaps so we've got - as soon as the last two seats are taken-20 diners with 12 bottles being provided by the vintners so we certainly will have a broad based selection but it appears whites will be in demand. I'll bring a mystery white wine that has been a hit at several dinnners.

| I am happy to bring something -- so let me know what is needed. Is there any concern that a bottle may not have enough for 20 people. I can bring red or white. | | | |

I have the same concern. Since I am coming solo, I had planned on only bringing one bottle (yeah right, when did I ever not bring a backup or "what the heck let's open this" bottle?) I had planned on bringing a bottle of the 2003 Martinelli Chardonnay Charles Ranch but I only have one left (if I can find it) I'm considering bringing a couple of the 2004 A Donkey and Goat Chardonnay Brosseau since I haven't tried it yet and want to.

| Hey guys:
If they bring the 2004 Zin, you're in for a real treat. We had it at Eric White's house last week and it was rockin'. Gove's a great guy with a very good palate.
Have a great time! | | | |
