| My husband and I got together Saturday night (12/14) with Mr HighDesertWine and his lovely wife to discuss the particulars of the Febuary 9th event, Wine In The Desert. This is shaping up to be a fabulous event with some world class wine, I personally saw the 3 liter beauty; '92 Beringer Private Reserve; what a monster! I may be sneaking out a couple of bottles of La Tache, they have been calling to me! I believe from Mammoth we have MountainMan on board as well as RonMc2. Stemor, are you still in? (oh and how many bottles of the CSJ-CC was HDW holding for you? ) Victorville is a 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas (South on I-15) and a 1.5 hour commute from LA proper, I-15 is a piece of cake drive on a Sunday. I hope to see some familiar faces at this desert extravaganza! Wines we enjoyed Sat 12/14 2001 Dom. Weinbach Gewurz, Cuvee Laurence (95) *none of that cloying sweetness, this is a fantastic Gewurz* 2000 Pine Ridge Chardonnay, Dijon Clones (92) 1999 Stonestreet Chardonnay, Upper Barn (92) 2001 Remo Farina Bianco di Custoza (88) *like a piece of apple pie w/ cinnamon ice cream; a winner @ 8.99* 1999 Hartford Court Pinot Noir, Jennifer's Vineyard (93) * lovely fruit and not a touch of funk. Just enough spice- spectacular with the Blackened Salmon* 2001 Marquis-Philips S2 Cabernet Sauvignon (93) *this is a powerhouse, wonderful Cab* 2000 Pride Cabernet Franc (93) *WS missed the mark on this one! WOTN at the La Jolla/ San Diego off-line* | | |

| PE, Interesting about the S2. Parker says to hold to 2004 before drinking. Recently had the regular cab and thought it was dynamite after about 2 hours of air and a splash decanting. | | | |

| Dave; I'm sure HDW decanted this for at LEAST 2 hours prior! 2004 ? That may be too early for this huge CS. | | | |

| I have now had maybe a case of the 2001 Marquis-Philips regular Cab, and three bottles of the s2.
The s2 is darker, denser, and fleshier than the regular bottling, and will certainly continue to improve over the next several years. For right now, the regular is a darn good drink!
My ratings were 91 and 93.
BTW, I never saw Parker's ratings. What were they? They are not yet in the database at his website...

| | The Parker folks admit that the DB is out of date by at least one issue, usually two. This make it only useful as a reference for older wines and not a reference to purchase just released wines as any high scorers will be gone by the time the parker web site gets them. | | | |

| Parker rated the regular cab 92. Said it would keep for a decade and was comparable to a $75 Cali wine. The S2 was rated 93+. He retasted after it was open 24 hours and double decanted. It revealed "sweeter tannin and greater fruit intensity attributes that should serve this wine well in its aging process. 2004-2017. Sarah's received a 93. Drink over next 3-5 although he said his instinct says longer. The shiraz was a 93er, but with no drinking window. The 9 was a 96-point wine. Enjoy now and over the next 12-15 years. The shiraz Integrity is "virtually perfect.'' Maturity: 2004-2020. Should be about $75.
One other note: "Unbelievably, the 2002s are supposed to be even better since the vintage materials are considered phenomenal.''

| | DaveL, only $75 for the Integrity? I heard it was going to hover around $100 most places. Guess we'll find out soon! | | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |

| Brian,
This topic has suffered a serious "thread drift" , but if you are asking if there will be room for two more people for the Victorville dinner the answer is most resoundingly "YES".
I'm so sure about it I'll even answer for HighDesertWine, our host. So ... YES! Please plan on coming. Those of us that are planning on attending will look forward to meeting you.

| Uh oh, if tt is going, you guys better get more wine. Or at least some vodka for later.
Very jealous, as I would love to sample some '92 Beringer PR again as well as these Loring Pinots that I have been hearing so much about.

| "thread drift" a new offical BB'erism...I like it!
Just about a month away, I've been thinking about what goods to bring. Maybe a couple of '92 Cali Cabs to keep the Beringer company. Maybe a Montebello and a Montelena?

| | Will there be a theme? I was thinking of bringing some 2002 barrel samples... but what other things do youse guys like? My cellar is mostly Cali Pinot, but my girlfriend's cellar is a bit more diversified. Any thoughts? | | | |

| Brian,
The theme at the Victorville events is usually: YOU bring it, WE'LL drink it!
Also, since our host also runs an eponymous wine shop, there will be no problem with crass commercialism if you choose to bring some of your wares. Please.
