| All...would love to schedule some time to catch up with you as we haven't done much since the anniversary weekend... Would anyone be up for an offline in August in the Bay Area? Maybe SF? We have some odd magnums and stuff we would not open for "non-wino" groups, and would love the opportunity to crack open a few.
We are up for travel to the East Bay as well...maybe Oliveto's? In SF I know Spruce has a private room, but that might be more than our budget allows. Talk to you soon,
Fred

| | We're game. August is good for us. Anywhere near a BART station (or short walk) is preferred (East Bay or City). | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

| We're up for something in August as well Fred! I like the idea of Spruce...I've heard good things.....how many can the private room hold? Chris

| | 14 or 40 people are the limits in the two rooms. Private dining is a great experience but its not cheap. | | | |

| Well, Spruce is not a walk from the BART station, at any rate. I'm open to suggestions...there are some restaurants along the Embarcadero, like One Market (I've never been...), also if one takes the Third Street MUNI to 4th (K&L) there's Coco500 (maybe noisy, but I know the chef) and Fringale (good prices). I will look into Spruce just for giggles... In the East Bay, I've been to Oliveto's recently, and it was great, but rich food...like Boulevard. My squab breast came roasted from the brick oven with both legs and claws still attached, clutched in the anguish of death. By the time I finished the dish it had unsettled me... But somehow, I could see going back there if the wines were really old, and I wanted a gothic experience like in "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover."
Would you all prefer weekend or weeknight?

| I would definitely be up for going maybe +1 as well. I live in SF so I could make it anywhere anytime. I guess I would prefer not the most expensive restaurant in town - but I'm up for anything inbetween $80 a person restaurant and a steak BBQ in GG Park. There is a 1999 Pine Ridge Stags Leap cab I am thinking about bringing. | | | |

| Hi all...
My sommelier friend at Spruce broke his foot and is out of sorts for 6 weeks! I just want to know if it was getting off of a MUNI bus in the Mission, or stepping off of a tour bus at DRC... But alas, he has not had a chance to reply. I called and it is indeed expensive...they have a room (a nice room) with a 2K minimum that can hold 14 people. That would be about $145 per person all included. I would have to work on the numbers with their sommelier regarding corkage, and put together a menu for that price, but it seems a bit high given the influence that this group has at restaurants in the Bay Area. FYI the Fri/Sat dates they had available were Aug 15, 16, and 22.
I will check out Fringale, as the food I had there a few months ago was really top notch, and see if they can put us in the back of the restaurant one night. They have a cozy area with banquets (sp?) all around. I am also up to try any suggestions that people have. I will check out One Market as they have received a Michelin star and I've always wanted to go there...
Let's start a list if you are interested...

Wish me luck...

| Depending on the date you can put me down for 2 people. If One Market really got a Michelin star then things have changed dramatically from the last time I was there.

| | Now that I have quit my job and my son and fiancé just bought a house in Pacific Heights I'm up from some events in SF. I'd like to be a definite maybe for two depending on dates. | | | |

Agreed - One Market has been at best mediocre for years. Bauer gave it glowing marks fairly recently too but its really hard to believe imo.

| I'll dogpile on One Market also:
I always found it overpriced and full of conventioneers with expense accounts. However, I think it's true for all of Bradley Ogden's restaurants: nice environment, overpriced and un-memorable. | | | TN posted on Cellartracker"

| | I would be up for (2) in August any date other than the 22/23 weekend. The Spruce option would be OK with me - I have been interested in trying it out. If price is important, dining in the City is always a premium, and dining on a weekend is always a premium. $150/person for a top end restaurant in the City on a weekend is pretty standard - and can be worth it. Fringale should be a little less and would be great as well. On the other hand, if you want to venture out to the boonies where Chris and I live - we can set you up at Wente Brothers for half that on a weeknight (and can even get the same price on a weekend if you are willing to be seated at 5:30). | | | |

| OK...so far:

To start the ball rolling, let's say August 15th or 16th, at Spruce. It is a high end place, but I've been there twice and have been duly impressed. I will still check out other alternatives. For good cooking with a southern flair, there is always Chenery Park in my neighborhood. Very close to BART (Glen Park). I'll check with Fringale tomorrow...
OK, so is this going to turn into one of the many DavidN retirement celebrations? Could that be possible? Way to GO David! Sincere congrats...
