My work has me travelling down to LA on a regular basis.  Usually I'm around on a Monday or Tuesday night.  Anyone out there that would be interested in doing an offline sometime in March perhaps?  I don't have a date or a venue, just would be nice to have something to look forward to other than hotel dining while working on my laptop...

I too will be in LA in March - from the 16th to the 24th I believe - (Kids Spring Break) - would love to get together for some wine slurping with a West Coast Cru...(alas I used to always travel with my case bag - but carry on only - much tougher to [safely] bring wine along these days...though I'll manage somehow!)

I have never been to an offline and would be interested as well. I've got some good stuff that I'd like to try in the company of fellow VCers.

We will be in the South Bay but certainly can travel. I don't know anything about corkage policies or even recommended restaurants (that aren't ethnic & cheap) - but we are up for just about anything. We are also considering taking a 1-3 day trip up to Santa Barbera and the wine country beyond - no definate plans yet but it seems likley we will do something along those lines - likely mid week. We would love to get together with fellow VCers otherwise...

OK, just for fun, how about we shoot for March 18th? Anyone have any corkage friendly restaurants they can recommend?

There are several corakage friendly places in the south bay.

www.buonavita.com is one place in Hermosa Beach/

Let me talk to a friend who owns a restaurant (actually two) in Manhattan Beach. He may be willing to waive corkage for the evening.

My usual tasting group is not assoc. to VC, so this will be hopefully my first one with this group. Looking forward to it, and hope we can make this work.

The 18th looks good right now - perfect really, as we are all booked up for the preceeding weekend and we wanted to block off a few days during the week (which this allows) to head up to Santa Barbera and such. (tentatively) count us in! (I still need to run the date past my wife and check with her family to make sure the date is OK - but it seems fine)...

Looking forward to the Restaraunt choices - and no corkage is a big sell fer sure. (so let us know incident...) Once we have an idea what they serve and know what people have available and might want to share perhaps we can think of a theme.

Sorry to hear you won't be around on the 18th Rumple - though I imagine that the 20th or 21st might work equally as well for us (at the moment anyway).

No problem. I'll monitor this thread and if the date changes, I'm in.
Since Randy seems to be coming to LA regularly, we can probably hook up some other time.

How about Houston's in Santa Monica? A very popular place (good food from my one experience there) and there is no corkage. Since Rumpel can't make it the 18th, how about the 20th?

I don't have a strong agenda here, so all suggestions/ideas welcome!

Sounds good. I still need to run the dates by my wife. Whats the food at Houstons? (steaks?) - maybe we could do a Malbec-Cabernet shoot out eh?

The 20th would work well for me and I can take on some of the organizing chores.
Randy, whereabouts are you staying? I can think of several restaurants that could work.
Since you and Winoman are visiting from out of town it's probably not very practical that you bring wine.
I would love to open some Marcassin. I have not tasted the 2003 PNs and I have been waiting for the right occasion.

Mmm Marcassin...sounds delicious! I'm sure I can find some way to bring some wine (even if I have to buy some bottles locally)...we might be doing a wine tour prior to the dinner as well (if held on the 20th) and who knows what we'll come accross.

Well I fly down all the time, and Southwest is pretty efficient, so bringing a bottle down is not much of a problem. What IS scary is that Wade's Wines is literally across the freeway from my office... quite a selection.

Marco - I usually stay somewhere near LAX. North or south of the airport, within ~10 miles, is fine with me.

We have made reservations for 2 nights in Santa Barbara for Tuesday and Wednesday night  (18th & 19th). We plan on doing a trip up to Lompoc area (Santa Ynez valley) to visit some wineries (on Wednesday). We should be back in time Thursday to go out with ya'll and I plan to have some Santa Barbara county wine in tow (so any suggestions where i might find saome good bottles? ...and good tours etc - we will be a group of 8 adults). Also - whoever is organizing should PM me with their cell phone number and I can provide mine - as I will possibly not have easy internet access in addition to having to remember my Vinoceller login and password! Thanks. And definetly looking for some recs for wine tasting!

We're in - but where? And if someone could pm me a local phone # just in case something comes up and I can't access the site (and I don't anticipate I will be able to) - I'll be happy to provide my cell phone # as well...also we will have some (wine loving) friends from France with us and perhaps they might want to join us...very nice folks. My plan is to bring dsome Pinot or Syrah from Santa Ynez Vally where we will just be returning from that day...

March 20 is ok, but I am out of town from the 16-19, so I won't be able to help with last minute arrangements.
I suggest we start with a headcount. I am confident that we'll able to come up with a Restaurant near LAX, possibly Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach.
