Mrs. T and I just returned from an anniversary dinner at Le Paradou in DC. Fantastic food. I'm sure they can do a Saturday night, but I'm not sure they allow corkage on the weekend. Something to definitely consider....

Sorry, but I don't have another 5L that must be drunk (as well as no way to reasonably transport it to DC). I will be able to stick a couple of bottles in my checked luggage, and will send out some ideas as we zero in on a restaurant. I have no preferences for a place, and will leave that to you locals. The only requirement I can think of is reasonable corkage, as I suspect a large number of bottles might get opened

The mrs. and I are in for the 9th. Le Paradou is where we did the Siduri dinner last year, right? That was good, but if we want to do French does anyone have an opinion on Citronelle? Or maybe Italian or a Steakhouse (a place with super-yummy non-red-meat options for T-rep, of course )

Le Paradou is a pain, but they do a pretty good job. I used them for the Neal dinner. We had a last minute cancellation that increased the price for everyone by 20%. With prodding they will waive corkage though. Cafe 15 is another good choice, but I don't know if they will waive corkage on a Saturday night (we went on a Sunday).

Citronelle does not permit corkage. In the past when I've arranged the dinners, I've talked to the restaurant about preparing a 4-6 course meal for a fixed price per person that included tax, tip and corkage. that way we know up front what the price will be per person. I've always asked that there be able to keep it in the $75-90 range and if possible to have a fois gras course. So far we have been able to do so. I don't know about Saturday nights at a few places because some places like Bistro Bis and Corduroy have a limit on the number of bottles. We could ask Tony Burell at Viridian, he did a great job for us when he was chef at Gabriel. I haven't been to his place since he took over there however. I'm also sure that Brendan Cox would be glad to do it again at Circle Bistro. I'm sure we can think of a few other places to try too.

By doing it that way, there are no suprises. Anyone else know any chefs in town that they could ask? It seems to me that the Oval Room did one for Norm a while back.

Bob-- No it was charlie palmer's that did a Neal /KB dinner in april-- I'm in Las Vegas on the 9th and I haven't been posting on this opportunity- so sorry I can't help out. Norm

I remember the KB/Neal dinner at Charlie Palmers, but I guess it was someone else who had a dinner at the Oval Room. Vegas, you poor thing. (or at least when you get back.)

I had the Oval Room scheduled for the Neal dinner, but they lost their chef. I understand that they have a new chef in place now though. Their strength is an unlimited number of glasses. La Chaumiere is another decent venue. My recommendation would be Lavandou. Good food and very reasonable prices.

Does Lavandeau still have free corkage on Monday nights?

Dinwiddie, I'll check with them. I've been 3 different days (all week nights) and have never paid corkage, but Saturday night might be an exception.

How about a Kosta Browne postcard theme?

If you are on the KB list (or able to buy the wine at retail prices), then you bring wine. If you are not on the list (TJ!) or are traveling great distances, then you come and drink the wine and don't bring any wine. That way no one has to miss out or pay the exorbitant secondary prices

We would need to keep attendance to 12 or less, but that shouldn't be a problem. Unless we have a high ratio of "haves" to "have nots," list members should plan on bringing 2 bottles.

hi. i've been around a few other boards for a while, but am a newbie here, directed to VC because of this offline. i live in bethesda and would be interested in attending this and other saturday offlines with my wife. we've been unable to make it to another local crew's offlines as they typically are sundays and i work sunday through thursday.

as for the dec. 9 theme, however, i'll let you know now that i'm not on the kosta browne mailing list. if you're interested, though, i could bring a loring pinot. i'll watch this thread.
