VC's ScottJ is coming into town for a few days in September. I'd like to take a straw poll to find out who would be interested in an offline. I've generally found Sunday evenings easier to work into the schedule, but I'm trying to gauge interest and size of such an event.

As they say in Chicago & Florida, vote early, vote often!

and...not to speak for DavidN but he really wanted to keep these to no more than 12. He felt it gives a better chance to interact and talk over the wines with everyone there.

Personally I really like this too. Ten worked out really well at the first get together.

That is true unless there are 50 people that want to travel to San Jose to meet Scott.

I prefer anything but Wednesday, Friday or Saturday.

Wednesday night is ok if we want to go to my club and it is an all male group.

Any day and any place is fine with me.

I'd also prefer to keep it to 10-12 people. I'll get to see the 50 of you in November for the Cal Cab Smackdown.

Randy, thanks for organizing this !

We are definitely interested. Either day will probably work equally well.

Anyone interested in a Don Melchor vertical? My 2003s just arrived and I'm thinking I should open one to see how it compares to the 2000 and 2001.

Let's do this on Sunday, September 10. In general Sundays are more open for me, and DavidN as well. So... where to have it? Any votes, preferences, etc?

Sunday sounds good to me ! I'll let you locals figure out the best location ...

I have no Don Melchor, or any other Chilean wine, for that matter. My cellar is predominately CA, and I would prefer to bring a younger wine, as it will travel better.

Dave, I will bring an '02 Monte Bello to leave with you for the Cal Cab Smackdown in November. That way there's no possibility travel shock could be an issue.

I'll be happy to store your Monte Bello for you.

Regarding the Don Melchor, on rereading my post I phrased it very poorly.
I have 2003, 2001 and 2000 and was offering to bring all three so we could compare, assuming that there's interest.

I don't think Sunday 10th will be a problem; we have one of the grannies visiting so babysitting is already taken care of. However I think I'd prefer a fairly early start if possible.

Ok, looks like we have 6, possibly 7:

ScottJ
TLily
Dave_tong
DavidN
NorcalVinoLover
Yhnx (potential)
RandyW

I'm thinking of Alexander's steak house, right off of 280 & Wolfe. (The old El Torito for old timers) They have lots of room, the service is pretty wine-friendly. I haven't talked to them, but I'm certain it would not be an issue getting in there, perhaps I can talk them down on corkage. Unless someone else has a suggested restaurant that doesn't serve too many capers?

Theme: Something good you want to share

Let's try not to make this a high-toned shootout, let's focus on having fun.

What do you think? How about a 6 PM start time?

tlily, barrel samples are good

Randy, Alexander's at 6 sounds good to me. I suspect it would be beneficial to all of us if you can get them to do something on the corkage. Just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of bottles opened

"Something good" as a theme is fine. I'll dig through the cellar this weekend and pick out a bottle or two to bring.
