Norm, one question. That delivery of wine must have been intended for the more exclusive, black-tie optional, Thursday night dinner. When would be a good time for me to pick it up?

It will be fun to compare notes on the dinners. Thus far we have:

2004 Aubert "Lauren" Chardonnay
2004 Aubert "Ritchie" Chardonnay
2001 Ramey "Hyde" Chardonnay

Neal Cabs and Petite Syrah (note to self - collect same from Norm)
2004 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Petite Syrah
1984 Dunn "Napa" Cabernet
1984 Dunn "Howell Mountain" Cabernet
1984 Groth Cabernet

TBN dessert wine.

I find it funny that the whites will probably over power the reds in this selection in alcohol content! I mean aside from the Turley.

The early Dunn's had wildly high alcohol. Both of the '84's were 13.0%. The Groth was a more reasonable 12.5%. I shudder to think what the alcohol on the Turley is. If Parker gave it a 96-98, it must be 18+%.

hopefully someone is decanting the Turley now and using the Mark Neal "shake vigorously" method.

yeah. everything i have read about the Turley PS's says that they are really tannic even after a few years... maybe they are just trying to make the Dunns look silky...

Sadly, I must bow out of the dinner . Sorry for the late notice. I have been sick for the past couple of days and it's getting worse. I think I can easily blame this on visiting with family (ie the nieces and nephews) this past weekend. And I was really looking forward to this!

T-Rep, I still have your wine, we can sort out getting it to you then some other way and day.

You guys are in for a treat tonight. Mark and Margaretha and Gove and Elizabeth are just wonderful down to earth people. We didn't have the pleasure of having Michael Browne so you'll have an added bonus.

We had a lot of good wines last night, but Neal wines stole the show in my humble opinion. Le Paradou was a little uneven, but they did keep the glassware flowing.

Agreed...a very special night...for the wine..and more so for the company. What a great, relaxed, enjoyable vibe. Mike and Gove were very open and sharing and personal. Their wines were fantastic...I had never had a Neal wine before...but I will certainly be interested in seeking them out in the future (unfortunatly didn't get to try any of the Zin...shame...). The (04) Kosta wines were superb...really a testament to California Pinot - lovely wine. Mike obviously cares and it shows (same with Gove). I see them both as "players" in their respective genres for some time to come. Dimwiddie at least listed pretty much all the wines opened - those brought by Neal/Gove and Mike and those brought by Vinomembers and such...so we'll look foreward to the complete list at some point . For me the Kosta Russian River Pinot was right on...and the Neal Rutherford Cab blend (with Rutherfrod and Howel Mtn? fruit) drank quite well...as did the blend of several (9?) vinyards...very soft and approachable..and the Neal Syrah was nice and bold but not at all overwhelming...and these and their other wines were young of course, and showed such, but drank very well considering. The 03 Quartes de Charmes was a treat with the deserts...my Cheescake was superb and I tried some of my wife's Choc Mouse thingy and it was very nice as well....as was my steak...and salad...Charlie Palmer's service was excellent - everyone was friendly...great time had by all...we missed you TJ...but in your honor I took a few food pics...and I'll post them when I figure out how...time for bed...cheers!

There were some other interesting wines served as well - a Cali Petit Verdot - great nose!, another Cali Syrah (Ojai) was quite earthy and nice, A Gurtz like white from Michigan (yes...) started us off with a pleasent and refreshing suprise...my 01 JJ Prum Spatlese was showing well and was well recieverd....and sorry if I forgot anything just now...and the drive home wasn't at all bad either!...but yeah NOW off to bed! later...

Much thanks to Capkat for bringing it all off smoothly and superbly!

Wow-- terrific-- thanks for the great comments- first administrative announcment-- anybody leave a gym bag with shoes etc and a wine sock-- I have it--- send me a PM as we will be out of the country starting Monday night.
Second admin announcement--Mark, Gove , Michael-- you guys are my heroes. There is so much business in the wine world and you folks and your families are what brings me back to understand that people are just what they choose to be and you are some of the most gracious and engaging people I would ever want to share a meal and evening with. thanks for joining us and bringing the fruits of your labors.

Third amin announcement-- three down and one to go this week. I've now slugged through the Biennniel Judicial conference on Monday and Tuesday, instructing a class for about 200 new attorneys and the wine dinner last night, and tonight is the wine tasting and auction at the French Embassy.

Mark, Gove and Michael will again show their wines and we are so grateful to them for coming and participating. These are some fantstic wines made by some equally fantastic people-- Thanks---- Norm
