I got together with forumites GA, HDW and Mrs. HDW, and two of HDW's friends for a thoroughly enjoyable evening of food, wine and fun.

First, I want to thank everyone for their hospitality, especially considering the last minute nature of this trip. There is nothing like walking into HDWs shop and seeing eight bottles of wine already open to make a stranger feel welcome!

And dinner at Chateau Chang was fantastic. Kim did a great job of seeing to our every need.

I have taken the liberty of posting HDWs notes from the other board, along with my comments, since he was the official note taker for this event.

With only six tasters, who would have thought we would go through 17 bottles of wine. Not one single bottle was corked (though one was dropped at Casa de HDW, right GA?). And the Buckeye bathroom was a sight to behold at the Casa. Thanks for letting me enjoy it, Mary!

The lineup in no particular order:

2001 Rosenblum Syrah, Abba Vineyard
1998 Robert Young Scion Red
1995 Justin Isosceles
1992 Etude Cabernet Sauvignon
2001 Martinelli Guiseppi & Luisa zin
1999 Saintsbury Pinot Noir Brown Ranch
1997 Staglin Cabernet Sauvignon
2001 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Dutton Ranch
2000 Jackson-Triggs Riesling Ice wine
2001 Ferrante Vidal Blanc Ice Wine (Ohio)
2000 Guigal Cote-Rotie Brune et Blonde
2001 Oliver Hill Jimmy Section Shiraz
NV Chambers Muscadelle
1999 Franz Hirtzberger Gruner Veltliner
2001 Dom. Weinbach Tokay Pinot Gris, Cuvee Laurence
1999 Joan d'Anguera El Bugader
2001 Pfeffingen Scheurebe, Auslese

It was a pleasure to meet Mike, and to imbibe multiple bottles of 90+ point wines. Thank you for bringing the Etude. Wine of the night of the red varieties. Really nice drinking now.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip. Let us know if you find any hidden gems along the road!

And yes, I dropped the wine dammit. I'm just thankful it was mine and not someone elses. That would have been far worse.
