sqwid and I will be tailgating for this Labor Day Weekend Saturday Game. We have room for three more fans. The game starts at 1:05 so the breakfast Champagne will be open by 10:30.

As usual, all you need to bring is wine. I'll prepare a variety of appetizers and sides, so any style wine is fine. skwid will grill the steaks. We have 10 seats in the 1st row of the second deck, behind the plate. Great view but the aisle runs in front, so there can be a bit of foot traffic at times. $45 covers the ticket and food.

I provide more info for anyone who hasn't attended one of these before.

I hope you have a great time before the game, because the Yankees may spoil the afternoon for you. Have fun.

We'll see how it goes board-o. I'm hoping for both a great tailgate and fantastic game with the A's winning. You should come on out. I've got an extra ticket three rows behind home plate for the Friday night game...

If you come back to NY, I'll get the tickets for an As-Yankees game.

I wish I could make it meet some of you guys. I'll be in a luxury box Friday and won't be able to make it again on Sat.

Go A's!!!!!!

I'm not posting here to gloat. After all, in the first game you guys won 12-0. I'm just curious about the tailgate party as I like to do them up well also. Forgetting the game, how was the tailgate?

The tailgate was great. Started setting up a little after 10:00, I think the (first) Champagne was poppped around 10:20. Bob Summers did the bulk of the work, with skwid preparing the meat (New York steaks and ribeyes). Started with some fantastic appetizers: skewered shrimp, chicken with five-spice and pinot essence, salmon quesadillas. The (enormous) rib-eye steak was outstanding. There was also some grilled lamb. Most of us made it into the game around the bottom of the 2nd. Temps were in the high 60's. Game wasn't even that painful since the A's never threatened. A few of us retired to the parking lot for another Champagne and the remnants of the wine. Wine highlights for me were the Gosset Rose, '01 Raveneau Butteaux, '02 Littorai One Acre, '03 Kosta-Browne Four Barrel.

The game was good until the 7th when the yanks broke it open with six runs to win 7-0. Tonights game should be a good one. Zito and Chacon.

The tailgate was very good. There was also some Cheese and crackers to start things out. The opening Champagne was a Krug Grande Cuvee (the newly labeled one). We also had a 2001 Chateau Montelena Napa Valley cab, a 1999 Mondavi Reserve Cab, 1.5L of a Sauvignon Blanc (didn't catch the name or vintage but it was really tasty with the grilled shrimp). There was also a 2001 Tablas Creek Vineyard Cotes de Tablas.

skwid - was Laube right or wrong about the Montelena???

Oops, that's if it's the estate

Laube scored both the Estate and Napa Valley 69 points. The NV (and the Estate in the past) are not 69 point wines. I'd give the NV a high 80's score.

Also: 2003 Clos Pepe Estate Pinot, 2001 Tablas Creek Cote de Tablas (for your fish), and a very nice CarlisleZiin (vintage? vineyard?)

After the game, skwid opened a NV Gosset Rose Champagne (very good). A 1999 Pur Sang didn't show very well.

Sounds like about the classiest tailgate I've evr heard of. We try to do it up well, and do have the food down perfectly, but we have yet to pop any Champagne at one of these. Maybe for the playoffs (if).
