David,
Thanks for the offer. I'm staying at the Hilton so I can walk. Ok, now I need some help deciding what to bring. Initial thoughts:
1997 Vineyard 29
1997 Seavey
1997 Staglin
1997 Heitz Marthas Vineyard
2001/2002 Alban Syrah Seymores
I think all of them could use some time in the decanter. We should be able to get an hour in the air while we go through the white wine and Pinot Noir phases of the dinner .
My two Cab choices would be the V29 or Seavey. Of course an Alban Syrah is always good.
Would you like to meet at my place before dinner? I could pick you up CWG on my way home from work. A little sparkle in the cellar would be nice. You other guys can come too.
Give me a time frame please.

| | PM or Kistler would be good. Those are always dependable. Or, if we want to have a shootout, let's put the 03 Aubert Ritchie up against the 02 Aubert Ritchie. That would be very interesting, as I greatly prefer the 02 aubert, but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. | | | |

| The '02 v. '03?
We would have to put one of those magic dippers into the '03 for 2.5 seconds to age it for a fair comparison.

A LITTLE SWEET?
I agree with Jones. That flight was just bizarre from start to finish. If anyone tasted the Yattama their tastebuds were damaged.

| | Thanks very much and I'd like to (especially given the level of wines people are talking about) but I am actually going to be getting back from Chicago of all places the day before so the timing does not work too well for me. Also downtown San Jose is a difficult place for me to get to on a weeknight now that I have sold my car and am basically a full time City dweller. | | | |

Very generous offer David and I'll take you up on it. I wouldn't miss the chance to see your legendary cellar!
Next question: When I need to get wine to another state for a tasting, I usually FedEx it to my hotel the day before I arrive. Should I ship these to someone that is coming so that they can rest a bit before we pop them?

| CWG -- That's probably a good idea, but don't trust those other guys! | | | |

It did. That flight turned out a little weird (the Yattarna was dead, the Schwarz was on its last legs, and the Kracher was a late harvest wine) and that fouled the results imo.
How did that impact on the Testarossa v. Kongsgaard battle?

| Both wines garnered the same amount of first place votes. The Testarossa "won" because it received more second place votes. There were only two dry Chardonnays in the flight that were not dead or dying plus the wild card dessert wine. That seriously screwed up the validity of the second place votes so I completely discount the second place votes which makes it a tie between the Kongsgaard and the Testarossa.
The weird line up also harms the validity of the first place votes too because of the presence of the dessert wine siphoning off votes which means that not all of the votes that were cast were actually expressing a preference between the two viable dry wines.
Personally I break the at least arguable tie with my vote - I voted for the Kongsgaard first and would not have voted for the Testarossa but for the fact that the other two dry wines were dead and I was not going to vote for the dessert wine. Basically, the line up screwed up the results for the entire flight imo.

| The other wines certainly confused the tastebuds and skewed the voting.
What I'm really curious about is the Kongsgaard Judge. Unfortunately, since no one got more than one bottle, you won't be seeing many - if any - tasting notes. I will wait for a very special occasion to open this one.

Quit trying to follow the rules GFD. TFB!
And why don't you all just admit that the Kracher was #1? It indeed was!

| Let's see... If Dan takes the bullet train at 5:13, he gets to the station at 6:10. Any of us can pick him up, get to Grill by 6:20. We then have from 6:30 to 9 to consume as many bottles as inhumanly possible. The return trip is slower; he can catch the 9:06 train, be back in SF at 10:42. On the return trip, he'll have plenty of time to sober up and come up with a good story for Stephanie
I would love to taste the Judge, and decide when I will open my bottle
