Well, I certainly can state I know a LITTLE more about Italian wines than I used to. 80% of what we had were Chianti Classicos. Light, fruity, spicy wines. It was very much a learning process. You will have to forgive the stupidity of my notes because my palette is so geared to CA wines...

There was one white: Vernaccia di San Gimignano (unfortunately this wine was corked...

)
Flight 1 - Other - 1994 Torrione - Fattoria Petrolo - Vino da Tavola di Toscana
- 1998 Villa Pillo Syrah - Toscana
- 1997 Brunello di Montalcino - Barbi
- 1999 Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
The '94 Torrione was my wine of this flight: Intense berry nose; complex. Tangy fruit, a little plummy.
Flight 2 - Chianti Classico - 1998 Le Corte Chianti Classico
- 1998 Le Bocce 'Poded Della Sala' Chianti Classico
There were only two wines in this flight and mine pick was the '98 Le Corte: Strong sweet tobacco nose; spicy
Flight 3 - Chianti Classico Riserva - 1999 Riecine Chianti Classico Riserva (also corked...
)
- 1999 Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva
- 1997 Tenute Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva
- 1999 Peppoli Chianti Classico Antinori
My wine from this flight was '99 Peppoli: Slight late harvest nose; nice spice palette, well balanced.
Flight 4 - Super Tuscan - 1997 San Fabiano Cerviolo (50% Cab/50% Sangio)
- 1997 Selvamaggio Super Tuscan
- 1995 Easton Barbera Shenandoah Valley - RINGER
- 1999 Terrabianca Campaccio Super Tuscan
I was completey suckered in by the ringer and it was my wine of this last flight...

We were then treated to a 1997 Terrabianca Campaccio Super Tuscan which was FABULOUS! My WOTN!!! Big, bold, spicy nose with tons of complex aromas; berry, cinnamon: terrific palette of spicy strawberry and a little cassis.
Great night!!! Next month...Piedmont!
