I know that T-Rep is throwing a shindig for the Cru on the 22nd, but January 10-16 is Restaurant Week in DC. Anyone have plans for a get together since the food will be inexpensive but the wines don't have to be.

A check on OpenTable shows lots of places that have reservations available.

Not sure if I can make a DC Crü offline other than T-Rep's this month. But that is a great idea, dw.

Let's see if I can post this properly this time.

Another question for the Cru. I remember when the article came out in the Post in June, but why haven't we taken advantage of the Match your meal to your wine service that is being offered at the Caucus Room. See the link.

Honestly the word is that the food at the caucus room has gone downhill. I haven't been since the last time we all ate there, and that's saying something.

The only thing that really impressed me there was the company :-)

The food was good, but not GREAT.

I must admit that the steak we had the last time was not nearly as good as the first off-line we had there.

I agree.

Mrs. TJ and I are thinking about hitting someplace for restaurant week possibly. Maybe. Hard to choose where to go though.

TJ,

How about Bistro Bis? Tony Burell is the chef there now and we certainly loved his food when he was at Gabriel. And the two bottle per table corkage limit shouldn't create any problem if it is just the two of you.

a couple of thoughts:
Mendocino on a Sunday for 1/2 price wine
Signatures on a Friday for 1/2 price wine

I like to at least give myself the option of ordering off the list especially the pinot laden list at Mendocino!

Medicino has half price wine on sundays? is that just during restaurant week? and does that include everything? they have the 01 and 00 Pride Cab Franc that would be awesome to try at half price. I have heard such good things about them.

sorry. i got a little excited.....

Blackies used to have a deal like that on weekdays before 7pm, they had half price wines (except for "reserves"). had a couple of nice bottles for "decent" prices with that deal - a la 1998 dead arm for $60.

I believe so but all it takes is a phone call to find out.

Mendocino: It is every Sunday. The food is just ok IMO. However, on Sundays, they take a number of great wines (reserve and non-reserve) and price them 1/2. In the end, you get some great wines for retail prices. For example, the Prides are about $60 on Sunday. You can find Shafer HHS for 150 or so.

Hey Irhf97, the DC Cru always welcomes anyone who wants to join us at our outings. I'm not sure when and where the February gathering will be, but you are certainly invited to participate.

Hey Doc, how recently were you at Mendocino? I've been meaning to get back there, but other places keep getting in the way. What's your current assessment about the food and why?

Irhf97-- You're always welcome to join the Crü. 'Experience level' is unnecessary.

ahahah

cool. we'll have to try to make that happen....

i've been learning a lot from the sidelines... it would be nice to taste more, and with company that appreciates the wine. sometimes It's tough to enjoy wine with non-winos...
