Board O -

I was a bit put off, but I've still got 10 or 11 bottles of this left.

I cracked my first bottle of the 6-pack I got. Had it at Palena for dinner with Mrs. TJ, TJ-bro and TJ-bro-partner.

This is one great wine. I decanted it for about 45 min at home, re-bottled it and brought it along to dinner (opening it, but not re-decanting it at the restaurant). Took my first sips about 3 hours post opening.

Wow.

I got the cocoa/chocolate, but also some mocha/coffee notes along with lardons and braised meat. gobs of fruit well structured and a great finish. One excellent wine that I iam glad to have tried and one I know I have 5 more bottles of. Woo-hoo!

Worth 94 TJ points

I had this again the other night and I was not as impressed as I was the first time around. Still, I agree with my original TNs just I'd knock maybe 2-3 points off. Not sure if it's my tastes, this particular bottle or what. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

TJ, I've had this wine twice now, once last March 1 at the offline in Massachussetts, but that was tasted only a few minutes after opening and after 20 some odd other bottles of wine had been consumed. I had it most recently in Florida on December 29th with rjs3, Emilio, Rothko, and spouses. I believe Emilio had double decanted it three hours before tasting. I found the wine still closed and hard to evaluate. From these two samples, I'd guess this wine needs years more in the bottle.

I think I agree, Board-o. I plan on holding the other 4 bottles I have for at least another year or two before I pop another. At least.

i had a bottle about a week ago and it is shut down. finally opened up slightly on day two. still a massive wine that needs a few years in the cellar.

Ahhhh. Shutting down. Now I can honestly say that I know what the heck this means from personal experience. Yes, I agree, this wine is officially shutting down.

We had the same experience, had a bottle 6 mos ago, decanted 1-2 hrs and it was awesome! Had another bottle in Dec and it was completely closed down, not at all the same wine.
Guess we're holding our last 3 bottles of the 2000 for a bit, maybe we'll try a 2001 in the meantime.

Thanks!
