| I'm glad you liked it. As the other resident Numanthia wine piggie (well maybe Stemor is there too) I thought I had a lot but you are ahead of me!
The potential of this wine is stunning. As LCC notes, if you drink it now decant it about 3 hours.
I can't believe someone didn't take the six-pack they had on hold of this wine the other day. I was on it quickly to say the least...

| Good move. Now, we are just waiting for Mr. Parker.
But, Winetex....I would give it even more than 3 hours. After 3+, it just started to open-up (a little). But, actually, I advise to HOLD!!! The person will be rewarded Greatly. I am Not touching another bottle for @ least 2 years.

| ojeffso,
Would you like any more of these? I'm sick of seeing this stuff available at B-21 in Florida for only $34.99. I'm hatching a plan to liberate some of them.

| for you local DC winos...I just reserved a 6 pack at Wide World of Wines in Wash DC at @45 per......which is not a great price but if I add shipping from somewhere else plus the hassle....probably not the worst price. They have more as a public service announcement

| How 'bout that: It's been named a "Hot Wine" by Wine Spectator. But "only" 93 points?!?
Well, at least he DID call it a "bombshell"! | | Cheers, y'all

| I thought my first post/paste here might well be in this thread since this is by far the hottest Spanish wine over the pond, as most of you still haven't tried Aalto. My N'2000 impression is thoroughly hindered by the ISO glasses and the cold cellar but here it goes. Tomorrow I'll post my Toro tasting for comparison with the '98. TM gave it a much higher rating than previous vintages, does that mean that he's sensitive to the RP95 x2 effect , or rather that it is indeed better than either of the previous vintages, hence expect RP96-97?
Toro NUMANTHIA 2000 19m French oak 14,5% Alc. [Gastro92+] For long it was so closed I feared I would not get it. But it DID open up (an act of mercy indeed). Far more graceful than I had expected (so it's only the 98 & 99 that are tannic monsters?). Incredible ripeness of jammy black fruit, plums, cassis, and inky notes. A touch Riberesque in the black sour cherry notes gave it elegance. Mouthfilling indeed, but far from overripeness or tannic monstrosity. Very long finish, but the structure does kick in at the end. A shame that I didn't have a more appropriate glass or time to decant it properly, hence the +. I easily recognized the aromatic profile in the 98 served yesterday (two weeks later) single-blind, among another 6 Toro reds...that's character!

| | gastro-i found the 2000 to be the same tannic monster as the 98, but with a touch more complexity on the finish. i found the 99 similar, but not quite the same amount of tannins. i think the 2000 slightly edges out either of the prior vintages. | | | |

| Stemor, you don't (but TJ does, in spite of the NY offline photos)
Re: 2000 vs 98
ojeffso, so here's where you've been, I enjoyed the 98 better due to the tasting conditions, but I bet it wasn't so approachable two years ago as the 2000 is now. Must retry the 2000 in proper conditions. Beware Tenerife buyers, I'm on a mission...

| Jeez, this is a great wine. This attempt at lifting my spirits just might work after all. It has been in the decanter only 50 minutes, but it is already showing it's character. The nose is very pronounced with cocoa powder and blackberries. This sucker is a big, big wine. Very tannic, but impeccibly balanced and extremely long. It will only get better. I have two choices. Either become more patient or get more of this wine. I might opt for the latter.
