| I really enjoyed the Abadia Retuerta (92-94) and the Remirez (94-96). The Remirez was singing by the time we got to it.
They're both on my buy list - the Remirez is on the 'to cellar' list while the Abadia Retuerta is one to drink fairly soon.

| | I am drinking the ramirez de ganuza rioja 1998 tonight. I will post TN's in the appropriate location (here) later. I have it pegged at a 92-93'ish and climbing. | | | |

| Good Lord! When did this crew turn into a bunch of Spanish wine drinkers? It used to be that only Gastro and only a few others from the WS boards were drinking and posting on Spanish wines. Now all the sudden everyone's doing it and I'm having trouble keeping up with things.
Based on this thread, I now need to go back to Martin Wine Cellar to buy a couple of more wines. It appears they have the Abadia Retuerta Selecion Especial '99 @ $22. As for the Remirez ya'll are discussing, is it the Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza Rioja Old Vines '98 as MWC describes it? They list this wine for $45.
BTW, I still haven't finished the '99 Termes I tasted again tonight. It gets a solid buy recommendation from me.

| | stemor, you are so right. Before 2002, 90% of what I drank was CA cab and Bordeaux. Now 90% of what I am drinking are German rieslings, Santa Barbara Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays (and I normally hate Chardonnays). I guess that is why I only buy wines when there is an exceptional vintage. There are so many good wines to be had. | | | |

| Glad to see people are doing some adventuring.
I didn't mention the Numanthia as being a 'buy' list because I only had a small glass and it was soooo closed that I didn't get a good reading. I did buy a couple bottles based on ojeffso's recommendation though - and plan to cellar those for several years before cracking one open.
I think Abadia Retuerta is a great winery. I fell in love with their Rivola for $8-11. Year in and year out it's a great bottle. Their next step up is the Selection Especial and it's even better (as one would expect/hope for double the price). Still, at $20, it tastes as good as many wines double the price in the marketplace.
wineaux - Yes - the full name of the Remirez should be:
Bodegas Fernando Remirez de Ganuza Rioja Riserva (1998).
IMO it's well worth the mid 90's score that it has received. If I could, I'd buy 3 and open my first in the next few months with plenty of decanting. The remaining two would be spread over the next 10 years or so....

| stemor: You are a riot.
wineaux: That is the direction that a Lot of people (especially here), I noticed are taking. If you check out some (or probably) most of the Topics in the Wine Conversations, they discuss just that...
People are looking to "other" regions to get more for the buck. And, as much as I love CA-Wines, that "more for the buck" escapes that territory. Unfortunate, but true. Another unfortunate thing is that our $$$ is going outside of the Country these days. But...

| | Spanish wines are typically very tannic... and the Remirez de Ganuza Rioja '96 and '98 that i have both don't disappoint. They need time.... If you open one, prepare to let it breath for a long while. | | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |
