From the NJ Offline at Tre Vigne on 6/28/03

2000 Clos Mogador
93 points – At this time, I enjoyed this more than the 99 Numanthia it was paired with. It was more approachable and had loads of cherry, cherry pits, must and minted tea in there. Nice finish and a great pair with pork.

This was definitely up there for me as well. Quite good.

How much was this, by the way?

How long did you decant this? Yu are a bunch of infanticides, lemme tell ya. I'm still holding on to my '98 and the '00 remains intact. You're lucky it wasn't the '95 (which according to Rene Barbier father needs 24h in the decanter).
I'll ...er... "have to" pop my '98 one of these days and see for myself whether RP is right about that window opening in 2003-

3 hours I think, Gastro. It may have been infanticide, but remember, it was done to help educate us, right?

I definitely have a great appreciation for Spanish wines and this one is outstanding. It's a young pup of a wine and does need some serious time however. I still think it showed beautifully though. This was my WOTN with the '99 Toro coming in second. 94pts

Glad to see new fans of Clos Mogador. I'll be picking up a six-pack when it arrives down here in VA.

<edit>BTW, how long was it decanted?</edit>

Quite a brilliant wine this is. I decanted this wine for 3.5 hours before tasting last night. Inky black/blue core with a solid purple rim. Boisterous nose. Tons of black fruit, currant, jammy fig and decent dollop of oak and mocha on the finish. Very well done. jb Rating 92.

I had it on Friday, briefly (90') decanted in a Riedel Duck (most inappropriate) and it showed amazing potential in spite of the stupid hurry. It was close to 92 when I gulped it with tears down my cheeks. My bottle remains at home and it's still available at retail for 38E.

My only 98 will fall soon, but certainly the lot will improve with another couple of years...if only it remained affordable... unlike most others...

I have 2 of the 1999 in the cellar along with 4 of the 2000 which I have yet to try either one of them yet. It is hard not to open one after reading the great notes.

Anthony, which Etude did you guys have that night?

Tonight I opened a bottle of this because I had a hankering for a good Priorat. Decanted for 1 hour and then consumed with ribeye steaks, this wine showed why I love Priorat wines in the first place. Dark in color, it possessed a soaring nose of dark fruits, blood orange and a frangrantly elegant spectrum of minerals, with a long finish laced with mocha notes - full-bodied, yet balanced and possessing elegance on the palate, this wine simply brought a smile to my face because it was so good. The 1998 Mogador first showed me how good Spanish wines could be, and the 2000 is no slouch - it does not cut the broad swath of fruits on the mid-palate as the 1998, but it is still a textbook Priorat with great precision, length and balance. It will drink well for many years to come.
