2003 Bodega Numanthia Termes Toro Numanthia - Spain, Castilla y León, Toro (6/17/2006)
WIMLNR,PURPLENR,NOWA,NOWS

Tasted June 17, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel Vinum Cabernet Sauvignon glass. Purple color in the glass, fairly clear hue throughout. When this wine was first poured the nose was horrible (smelled strongly of brett). I almost immediately declared the wine flawed and didn’t want to rate it. However, I let the wine sit in glass for at least 30 minutes and that horrible smell blew off to reveal a very attractive nose of coffee, mocha, cigar box, toasted caramel and cinnamon. Flavors were virtually undetectable behind the huge wall of tannins and bracing acidity. Perhaps some cherries hiding in there. No rating or value recommendation on this wine at the moment. I’d say it might be worth the gamble of the $44.19 local retail price to lay down a few bottles to see where it goes.
