  • 2001 Mas Doix Priorat Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles - Spain, Catalunya, Priorat (10/24/2005)
decanted in a very wide bottom decanter for 4 hours. consumed over the course of 2 hours out of reidel vinum bordeaux stems.

i can't say enough about this wine. it continues to impress me with every bottle i consume. this wine is a blend of 55% grenache and 45% carignan. the color is a very dark purple that thins out to the edge. the nose on this wine is unlike any other wine i have ever had. in a blind tasting i could pick this out every time. the nose is hard to explain. parker says camphor and i have to agree. it also seems to have a great bit varnish (in a good way), cassis, forest floor like pine needles and wet stones. the nose is almost intoxicating imo. another very well rounded wine in that the attack is awesome, the mid-palate is strong and the finish goes on for over a minute. the tannin and the fruit are both there in spades. if you have a stash pop one now. if only holding a few wait a few more years. (97 pts.)

Yes, how much money? Each of my kidney is worth $24.99 + tax. If I sell both, will I be able to afford this wine?

ant, i've been debating a serious purchase of the '03 on futures. Do you know if $110 is a good futures price?

I ain't got no 5 kidneys for a bottle, man! Joe, I think our livers are shot from all those years of drinking, so may not be worth much either!

As Spock says, gotta pay to play.

Actually, yeah, $110 is a lot of money, but for an RP 98+ that Ant is backing up, that doesn't seem so bad, especially when you consider what you'd have to pay for a similar quality CA or French wine.

i have this wine 5 times now and every single time it was at least a 97 pt wine. iirc i paid $69 for the 01 and i expect to pay more for the 03. i also plan on buying all i can get of the 03, but i am also sure i will get a great price as usual

otherwise, yes its a buy. whiner said it best, when compared to the same quality cali or french its right in there.
