| The Viña PEDROSA Reserva 1998 proved a gutsy red with all the dark spiciness of Ribera, but also a distinct green note that Guillermo instantly identified as "fast-dried oak from the Magreñán barrels." Apparently this house--due to high demand--is no longer air-drying the oak long enough, and overtoasting it to compensate. Hence the heavier barrels every year (Guillermo used to buy from them, now it's all Seguin-Moreau at twice the price). I like the excellent Crianza 1999 better than this Reserva. 87-88.
