| Since Fran & Pili had just returned from a 9-day tour of La Mancha (a low-cal diet area ) he popped up with two bottles from a winery they visited. The modern-looking label of RUIZ VILLANUEVA Carbonic Maceration 2002 (100% Cencibel, aka Tempranillo) wasn't at all misleading as to the contents of the bottle, by far one of the best CM reds I've had. I poured my glass after some chilling and went to help Nikola with an errand. When I finally returned after 30' or so the wine had regained a little temperature but I think some aeration had also helped. Somewhat rustic bush aromas cannot hide the floral notes that ooze from the glass mingled with black berry fruit and the solid impression that this must be a mouthful, as it turned out to be. This had greater body and softer acidity than the first Rioja of the evening. Wholly enjoyable from beginning to end, not at all tiring and good enough for food and/OR conversation. 88+
