| $10. 65% Old Vine Mourvedre/35% Cabernet. I purchased the bottle due to Parker's 93-point rating of the 2001. Tanzer actually gives this vintage an 89.
This wine definitely needs at least 30 minutes of breathing/decanting time. When first opened, this wine was horribly closed and simple--to the point where I thought I had picked up a flawed bottle. Coming back 30 minutes later, I return to find a beautiful wine that still continues to open-up and impress after 1.5 hours. A medium bodied wine with thick legs. Leather and cassis aromas and flavors, along with unsweetened chocolate, finishing with a touch of coffee grounds combined with fairly rough tannins. Lengthy finish. A very good wine to excellent wine. 90 points.

| I quite agree. The first two bottles I opened and poured immediately were exactly as you described, simple, fruitless, dull. I wondered what all the hype was about
3rd bottle decanted for about 1.5 hours, what a difference! I finally "get it" with this wine. | | | 2008: the end of an error

| | Excellent description by both of you. My exact same experience. What a revelation that an $8 bottle can bring. Decanted this for 1.5 hours before tasting and what an amazing value this is. I've had many wines at $25+ that did not match up to this. Parker hit this one on the head. outstanding QPR. | | | |

| A strange but delicious bottle of wine, indeed--and a great value. Thanks for the replies--this bottle threw me for a loop when I first opened it; I am glad to hear others had a similar experience.

| | A friend of mine who works in wine retail cornered me in his store a few days ago, shoved the bottle of the 2001 at me, and said "93 points...Parker!". At $12.97, how could I say no? I plan to crack it in the next week or two in order to see if I should buy more. I'll post TNs on the 2001 in a few weeks. | | | |

| | The local store has CASES of this stuff for $8/btl. I passed on it today, but think I'll grab some tomorrow. | | | |
