FX PICHLER Riesling Smaragd Loibner Berg 1999 13% Alc. (I paid $25) from 416/15
My first Riesling since August!? (emit supersympathetic "oo

oo

oohhh" here chaps). You bet I loved it. Very closed initially, it made me fear something weird with the bottle, but no, it eventually opened up beautifully: apple, floral, and honeyed varietal aromas touched by mineral notes and vibrant acidity. Pleasantly fat, glyceric texture, and solid structure in the mouthfeel. Is this just off-off-dry or is it the amazing wealth of fruit that seems remotely sweet? I enjoyed this immensely, and only revived memories of great Rieslings restored me into a moderately objective rating condition. 92 seems fair.
