Tasted as part of our April BAWE Spanish wine event:

By far the darkest of the flight, almost black in color. Young, sweet, and tremendously powerful on the nose, showing dense black fruits, spice, clove, black cherries, and brambly notes. Huge but focused palate, with just gobs of pure fruit, bold ripe tannins, wonderful balance and purity. Tremendous now, but only hinting at what it will be as it matures. 95+ points, and my wine of the tasting.

I agree Eric. This is a beauty of a wine. I brought this to Seek's Wine/Dine-weekend about a month ago. I posted this on another thread also. We had a lot of very good wines that weekend. This was my fav. I am holding the remaining 5 bottles.

So, I bought a case of the 01. 01 is supposed to be a great year in Priorat.

This was by far the most Spanish wines that I've had and I was very impressed. Ironically, the $120 bottle (rated 98 by Parker (Rovani?))was the most disappointing.

Parker reviews Spain.

Has anybody tasted the baby brother of this wine, the 2000 Embruix? I picked up a couple on a retailers recoomendation.

$120?? Restaurant price... I hope? Fetches 50-60E here...
The 2000 Embruix (likely the last great Embruix to be bottled) is a pretty good $15 wine. I'd go as far as to say it's a pretty good $25 wine retailing for less. But beware what you pay for it...especially beginning with the 2001 vintage (they have invented a medium range bottling called Idus, and this is likely to distort the whole portfolio).

And to shut my big mouth RP seems to have given Embruix 2001 a 94 rating (according to Zachys)...?

There seems to be more and more mid-nineties RP wines coming out from Priorat these days...

Hard to say, anthonyiez. but, should be going strong. You never really know until you open a bottle.

I will open another one in 2 years. But, I have 6.

Had the 2001 of this last night.

93+ (hold, needs time). Another winner Vall Lach. Elegant, smooth, a beauty, balanced.

Start of night: 92+. End of night: 93+. Hold!

I felt the 2001 was far more approachable than the 2000. The 2000 was extremely tight. The 2001 was far more aromatic and appealing on the palate with more forgiving softer tannin and rich fruit character. While approachable, letting them sleep for 1-3 more years will in no way be a wrong move.

2000 Celler Vall Llach Priorat Vall Llach - Spain, Catalunya, Priorat (6/11/2008)
WIML92+

Tasted June 11, 2008 at an offline.

Opened and served immediately. Crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of berries, cherries, currants, leather and potpourri. Flavors of currants, cherries and berries. Medium to vibrant acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full body. You can probably drink now with a nice decant or continue to hold. Seems like a baby to me about to enter it's window. WIML92+ for the moment but it might pick up a few with a little more time in the bottle in my humble opinion. (92 pts.)
