Rosé tasting in the Redwood City tasting bar tomorrow night, and sparkling wine in the SF and RWC Saturday tastings.

There is no better way to enjoy this time of year than to stroll around the Farmer's Market, pick up some fresh plucked produce, gather some friends and enjoy a lazy afternoon of eating and drinking with a couple bottles of crisp, dry Rosé in the ice bucket. Great dry rosé is now hip, people in mass have gotten the Sutter Home monkey off their back and are embracing rosé for what it is… one of the great pleasures of the wine world, peerless for accompanying the flavors of summer, easy on the wallet and just plain tasty. Pink Wine Is Cool!!! Come one come all; join us for one of the most eye opening and delicious tastings this year. We will feature many styles all of them affordable, all of them fun.

Here is the lineup:
Bandol Rosé Domaine de la Bastide Blanche
Cotes de Provence Rosé Domaine Mas Sainte Berthe "Passe-Rose"
Tavel Rosé, Cave de Tavel "Lauzeraies"
Franck Millet Sancerre Rosé
Gerard Boulay Sancerre Chavignol Rosé
Belasco de Baquedano "Rosa" Rosé of Malbec
Harrison Clarke Santa Ynez Valley Rosé
Etude Carneros Pinot Noir Rosé

Cost of the tasting $5

Oxbow Wine Merchant's Inaugural Flight Night In Napa featuring Domaine Leroy Tasting with Martine Saunier
Join us at our new shop in Napa on Wednesday, July 16th, from 5:00-8:00pm, when we launch the Oxbow Wine Bar Producer Flights with special guest Martine Saunier of Martine's Wines. We are very pleased to begin our series of the extremely popular Winery Flight Nights in Napa at Oxbow Wine Merchant with our special guest, Martine, importer extraordinaire of fine French wines based in Marin County. Martine was the first woman to establish a wine importing company in the United States, founding Martine's Wines in 1979. Some of her thoughts on this most enchanting beverage, Burgundy: “For me, a great red Burgundy has to be flawless, with firm structure, rich berry flavors, clean without filtration. It’s not a heavy wine, but a haunting one.”

We will be pouring a flight of Domaine Leroy Burgundies, some of the most sought after wines in the world. The flight of five spectacular wines will span an era of thirty years of fine winemaking at the Domaine, owned by Lalou Bize-Leroy. Domaine Leroy has been cultivating their vines under biodynamic conditions since 1989. This means their wines are free of all chemical treatments, weed killers, pesticides, fungicides, insecticides and artificial fertilizers. They are also full of some of the most sublime flavors on earth.

In the words of the great Clive Coates, "This is the greatest estate in Burgundy...How do you determine great? Is it size? Is it quality? Is it price? Is it "reputation" (what ever that is)? Is it the amount of media coverage? However you do compute it, the greatest domaines of Burgundy today must be those under the control of Lalou Bize-Leroy."

We know there are legions of Burgundy freaks out there and this is a tasting not to be missed. As your special guide for this Leroy Burgundy evening we have invited Martine Saunier to lead us through an incredible tasting of Vosne-Romanee, Meursault, Pommard, Volnay, and Chassagne Montrachet. Debbie Zachareas worked closely with Peter Granoff to fine tune these selections from a broad range of appellations and vintages going back several decades. It was hard work narrowing Matine's Leroy portfolio of stellar wines down to just five precious choices.

Come taste the very best of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the region where they first emerged. On this exquisite evening all five of the featured selections are Premier Cru from five distinct villages. When you combine loftily-rated vineyards, a legendary producer, and excellent vintages, the results are predictably memorable and rare. When you have someone as knowledgeable and close to the source as Martine on hand to comment on such fine offerings the evening becomes even more amazing.

We are sure you will love meeting this Burgundy expert when she joins us at Oxbow Wine Merchant. Help us welcome Martine Saunier as she guides us through wines from this legendary region. What a fine way to start off our series in Napa!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the scarcity and expense of these rare wines we will be pouring one ounce portions for this tasting!

Save the Date!! Our second winery flight night will be Wednesday, August 20th. We are delighted to announce that Ted Lemon of Littorai will be joining us here at Oxbow Wine Merchant in Napa. His are among the most elegant, complex wines made in California, are highly allocated and only available from the winery and in restaurants. What a coup!

The featured wines are served as one ounce glasses. These and other wines from Domaine Leroy (including the stunning 2005 vintage Grand Crus) will be available for retail sale as well while supplies last....

The cost of the flight will be $60 and will include the following wines:

1999 Leroy Meursault Charmes 1er Cru, Cote de Beaune
(retail: $150)

1999 Leroy Chassagne Montrachet "Morgeot" 1er Cru, Cote de Beaune
(retail: $155)

1976 Leroy Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru, Cote de Nuits
(retail: $400)

2003 Leroy Volnay "Santenots" 1er Cru, Cote de Beaune
(retail: $200)

2004 Leroy Pommard 1er Cru, Cote de Nuits
(retail: $280)

Hope to see you all there!
Debbie, Peter, Bo, Jeff and the entire Oxbow team.

San Francisco Wine Trading

Don't miss our Sparkling Wine Tasting this Saturday, 7/19/08 from 2-5:30pm.  $10 for the complete tasting.  In addition, enjoy 15% off the purchase of the tasting wines through the close of business, Saturday.  You can now order online!  Simply click on any of the selections below or visitwww.sfwtc.com.

nv Lassalle, Brut, Preference $43.95 ($37.36)

J. Lassalle is one of Kermit Lynch's best selling Champagnes. The Preference is J. Lassalle's Reserve bottling and this particular cuvee is one of their finest to date. Unlike previous releases, this year's blend is composed of a higher percentage of older, base wines from stellar vintages including 1996. This classic blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay Pinot Meunier is yeasty and toasty with a citrus shortbread character and a robust, full-bodied backbone.

nv Vin du Bugey Cerdon, Renardat $22.95 ($19.51)

Bordering the Swiss Alps in the departement of Ain, just west of Savoie comes this outstanding, off-dry sparkling rose. Slightly effervescent with fragrant aromas of wild strawberries, black cherries and cassis, this off-dry wine is the perfect accompaniment for a whole range of foods, from savory to sweet!

nv Cremant de Bourgogne, Parigot, Brut Rose $24.95 ($21.21)

The word "cremant" denotes a French wine that is made in the style of Champagne (that is, secondary fermentation in the bottle), and is usually composed of the preferred grapes of the region where it's produced. Located in Savigny-Les-Beaunes, the Pinot Noir grapes make up this delightful Cremant that share much in common with the still red wines that the region is famous for. Cremant from Burgundy best expresses its unique personality through its bubbles and brings out the particularities of its terroir. Dry red fruit, grilled brioche, vanilla and fresh herbs abound.

2002 Vouvray Petillant, Huet $31.95 ($27.16)

Produced from Huet's own biodynamically farmed Chenin Blanc vineyards with an average age of twenty years.   It is here in Vouvray, that Chenin Blanc really struts its stuff.  Whether dry, off-dry, sweet or sparkling, there is nowhere else in the world where Chenin Blanc is so successful or dynamic.  Although produced in the same manner as Champagne, this sparkling wine is a pure expression of the Loire Valley.  Dry and toasty with a strong mineral and nutty edge, the wine shows delightful notes of pear, green apple and smoke.

2004 Cremant d'Alsace, Albert Boxler $29.95 ($25.46)

Currently run by Jean Boxler, the grandson of the man whose name still graces the bottle, Domaine Albert Boxler has been a family affair for more than 300 years. Located in the small town of Niedermorschwir, the family owns only 26 acres of vineyards, eighty percent of which is Grand Cru designated. All 26 acres are organically farmed including this cremant which is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Riesling. The mousse is creamy and rich with bold nutty notes followed by tangerine peel and fresh stone fruits.

1998 Billecart-Salmon, Brut Rose, Cuvee Elisabeth Salmon $149.95 ($127.46)

Following the marriage of Nicolas Francois Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon in 1818, the house of Billecart-Salmon has been in existence. Seven generations have tended the vineyards but it was the current owners who first created the Elisabeth Salmon Cuvee in 1988. This wine is only made in superlative vintages and is a tribute to the estate's cofounder. Composed of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the wine has an extremely delicate and ethereal nose followed by a seamless blend of hazelnut, wild strawberry, dried herbs and almond paste.

Greetings:

Enjoy Amazing Zinfandel, Syrah and Petite Syrah from JC Cellars
Join us Wednesday, July 23rd, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Jeff Cohn, winemaker and owner of JC Cellars, to our Wine Bar. Upon leaving Rosenblum Cellars in 2006, after ten years of winemaking for that marquee brand, Jeff focused entirely on his own label, JC Cellars. Jeff launched JC Cellars shortly after joining Rosenblum and produced his first vintage, 75 cases of a 1996 Zinfandel, the same year. His brand has continued to grow and production has now increased to about 5000 cases, still a very small winery in comparison to many. Jeff is now widely known as a highly talented producer of Rhône style wines, and hailed as one of the masters of Zinfandel who marries his passion for classic French style winemaking with a spirited Californian sense of innovation to showcase wines that demonstrate the importance of terroir.

On this extraordinary evening you will have the opportunity to taste a Marsanne from Dry Creek Valley, a Sonoma Valley Zinfandel, a single vineyard Syrah as well as JC Cellars' top notch Syrah from a myriad of sources, and a Petite Syrah from one of Napa's most respected vineyards. It should prove to be something very special and you will have the man who made those tasty wines on hand to answer any question you care to ask about these offerings.

Come taste some truly remarkable wines that are full of character reflecting the properties of their respective sources. Having Jeff Cohn at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant to act as guide through this lovely tasting will make it even more dinstinctive.

The featured wines are served as two ounce glasses. If you find a favorite, they are also offered as full glasses. The wines will be available for retail sales as well while supplies last....

The cost of the flight will be $25 and will include the following wines:

2006 JC Cellars Marsanne Preston Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
(retail: $32, 5oz. glass $11.25)

2005 JC Cellars Zinfandel Arrowhead Mountain, Sonoma Valley
(retail: $35, 5oz. glass $12)

2005 JC Cellars Syrah Caldwell Vineyard, Napa Valley
(retail: $45, 5oz. glass $14.50)

(retail: $40, 5oz. glass $13.25)
