Greetings:
Join us Wednesday, August 8th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Robert Biale, Partner and Namesake, Robert Biale Vineyards, to our Wine Bar. Robert Biale was born and raised in Napa and is the son and grandson of Napa Valley grape growers. Working the farm was a part of growing up for young Robert. The Biale family has been dedicated to growing Zinfandel in Napa since the 1930's, a time when prunes were worth more than grapes. His colorful father, Aldo, is still deeply involved with the vineyard operations to this day. In 1991, Bob and Aldo along with their partners, Dave Pramuk, marketer, and Al Perry, winemaker, launched Robert Biale Vineyards, where Bob continues as manager of vineyard operations and grower relations. Bob is a board member and past president of Zinfandel Advocates and Producers (ZAP). To say the least, he is passionate about Zinfandel, the grape on which his winery has based its considerable reputation. Biale also produces small quantities of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Sangiovese, and Barbera, but Zinfandel remains the primary focus.
Bob is a very down to earth, charming, soft spoken advocate for this grape variety that has been adopted by America from its mysterious Mediterranean roots. Help us welcome him to the Ferry Building and you will greatly enjoy meeting this self-proclaimed Zin freak and hearing his many stories about living and working in Napa Valley. You will also be treated to an array of some of the most distinctive and expressive Zinfandel bottlings to be found anywhere in California. Don't miss this remarkable evening if you enjoy delicious Zinfandel or would like to learn more about this benchmark California wine.
The featured wines are served as two ounce glasses. If you find a favorite and would like a full glass just ask your bartender. These wines will be available for retail sale on a pre-order basis only as they will not be released until the Fall, so you can get first crack at these beauties…
The cost of the flight will be $28 and will include the following wines:
2005 Biale Stagecoach Vineyards Zinfandel, Napa Valley Retail $45, 5oz. glass $13
2005 Biale Aldo’s Vineyard Zinfandel, Napa Valley Retail $53, 5oz. glass $15

Greetings: Join us Wednesday, August 22nd, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Favia Erickson Winegrowers to our Wine Bar. Favia Erickson Winegrowers is a collaboration between Annie Favia and her husband Andy Erickson. Their philosophy is simple: create soulful wines that express the true nature of the vineyards in which they were grown. In the winery, they carefully coax the grapes into wine with gentle handling, minimal intervention, and disciplined monitoring, creating expressive wines that allow the grapes to speak for themselves. They make several different, substantial reds, and tonight they were generous enough to allow us to feature their Fall releases prior to their offering. The wines will not be available until October, but this special event will be a sneak preview. After the tasting you may choose your favorites and submit a pre-order to guarantee snagging some of these beauties for yourself. Each wine is made in micro-quantities ranging from 100 to 300 cases so they go fast once they are released.
Annie and Andy's resumes read like a who's who of Napa Valley. Annie fell in love with wine while studying in France and returned to work for Newton Vineyard with John Konsgaard, then with Cathy Corison at her winery. After realizing her true passion was working outside in the vineyards she got her degree in viticulture and began working with David Abreu on such esteemed sites as Harlan Estate, Spottswoode, Araujo, Colgin, Staglin, Bressler and Pahlmeyer. She now owns her own viticultural service company working with Abreu and Screaming Eagle.
Andy Erickson has also had a star-studded career which began in 1994 when he started working for Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. He later moved on to Newton Vineyard, Spottswoode, and Saintsbury. After receiving his graduate degree in enology from UC Davis, he was hired as Assistant Winemaker at Harlan Estate, then worked as winemaker for Staglin Family Vineyard. Besides working with Annie on their project, he is currently the winemaker for several prestigious names including Dalla Valle, Hartwell Vineyards, Arietta, Screaming Eagle and other emerging brands.
Obviously, both of the partners have impeccable pedigrees in the wine business. Stop on by the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant, help us welcome them, taste their wine, chat with them about their passions, and see what this dynamic duo has produced under their own label.
The featured wines are served as two ounce glasses. If you find a favorite and would like a full glass just ask your bartender. These wines will be available for retail sale on a pre-order basis only as they will not be released until the Fall, so you can get first crack at these beauties…
The cost of the flight will be $35 and will include the following wines:
2005 Favia La Josefina Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley Retail $65, 5oz. glass $18
2005 Favia Quarzo Syrah, Amador County Retail $65, 5oz. glass $18
