| Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant
Greetings:
Each year in early May, a throng of devotees of Rhône style wines gathers in Paso Robles on the Central Coast for the annual Hospice du Rhône festival. Producers of this wine genre convene from Australia, California, Washington, even the Rhone Valley itself, for this wine extravaganza. Schedules being what they are, not everyone can attend this Bacchanalia, so we decided to bring the fun directly to Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and have a little festival of our own.
Join us at our Wine Bar on Wednesday, May 9th, from 4:30 to 7:30, when we welcome Yves Cuilleron, Francois Villard, Yves Gangloff, Jack Edwards, and Morgan Clendenen for our own Hospice du Rhône intensive. These fun-loving French wine producers will be pouring a stunning selection of their Rhône wines as well as some lovely wines that were made in collaboration with Jack, of Miner Family Winery, and Morgan, of Cold Heaven Wines.
This exceptional evening will require a different format than our usual Wine Bar events. Instead of serving 5 wines in a featured flight on a tasting mat to seated patrons, this will take the form of a walk around tasting. Upon arrival each guest will be presented a glass and will have the opportunity to visit a few tasting stations sprinkled throughout the shop. Each station will feature one of the French winemakers, plus Francois Villard will be joined by Jack Edwards, while Yves Cuilleron will be paired with Morgan Clendenen, the California producers with whom they collaborated respectively.
We will be featuring five wines as our main attraction, but, as a sizeable bonus, these fine producers of rare French beauties have agreed to provide some of their most limited offerings for the tasting. Each location will offer a few of these special surprises that have been hand-carried here to share with avid Rhône enthusiasts. The wines from Yves Gangloff are in particularly short supply and will be available to order that evening on an extremely limited pre-arrival basis. You can guarantee securing some of these highly sought after wines, and you can taste them before you order. That is a rare occurrence indeed.

Hospice du FPWM
Due to the spontaneous nature of these Frenchmen, we would not be surprised if they showed up with even more unexpected wines from their weekend at the Hospice du Rhône. In addition, the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant will be providing some well-selected cheeses to accompany your tasting (Hey, they’re French, we had to have cheese!). All in all, this is an evening not to be missed if you enjoy Rhône and Rhônish wines, fun-loving winemakers, frivolity, some tasty cheeses, and a little light-hearted lunacy.
The cost of the tasting for this remarkable evening will be $29. The main wines to be featured that night will be:
2005 Cold Heaven Viognier Le Bon Climat Vineyard, Santa Barbara County, California, retail $27.50
2005 Cold Heaven Viognier “Saints & Sinners” Domaine des Deux Mondes, Santa Barbara County, California, retail $30
2005 La Diligence Syrah, Napa Valley, California, retail $48
2004 Domaine Yves Cuilleron Saint Joseph l’Amarybelle, Rhône Valley, France, retail $43
2004 Domaine Francois Villard Syrah, Vin de Pays Rhodanniennes, France, retail $21
We hope to see you all there! Debbie, Peter, Bo and the entire FPWM team.

Greetings:
Join us Wednesday, May 16th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Karen Culler, winemaker for Wolf Family Vineyards and Culler Wines, to our Wine Bar. Wolf Family Vineyards and Culler Wines may not be familiar names to you and there is a very good reason for that. They are both extremely limited production wineries with most of their exposure in high end restaurants. They are anything but household names, yet once you taste the wines they are unforgettable and well worth seeking out.
Wolf Family Vineyards is a tiny production label from a sprawling, gorgeous estate in St. Helena. It was begun as the realization of a longstanding dream by Jane and Doug Wolf who acquired the historic Inglewood estate and winery in 1997 as a place to gather with family and friends. Jane and Doug and their three sons are honored to be stewards of this beautiful winegrowing estate which is nestled against the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. From the beginning they have enjoyed the talents of exceptional winemaker Karen Culler to celebrate the terroir through the production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Meritage under the Wolf Family Vineyards label and their second label, Phaedrus.
Karen also produces small amounts of stunning wines under her own label "Culler." When she started producing Culler wines in 1997, after 12 years with Robert Mondavi Winery, she wanted to make wines that she liked to drink—"just in case they weren’t a hit with the public." She decided to make Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma and Napa Valley. Fortunately they have been a great success, and the wines are now much sought after and highly allocated.
If you would like to re-acquaint yourself with both of Karen's labels or open a new chapter in your winetasting history, join us at the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and help us welcome this talented winemaker next Wednesday night. Once you taste her wines, you will be so glad you attended this marvelous evening.
The following wines are served as two ounce glasses. If you find a favorite and would like a full glass just ask your bartender. These wines will be available for retail sale while supplies last…

The cost of the flight will be $28 and will include the following wines:

| The Wine Club Santa Clara DELECTABLE TASTING OF WINES FROM: ALSACE, LOIRE, SOUTHWEST,France & MOSEL-SAAR-RUWER,GERMANY Friday,MAy 25,07 FROM 4to 6pm HOSTED BY:Christine Tran $25 per person
ALSACE 2005 Lucien Albrecht " Cuvee Balthazar" Pinot Blanc:100% Pinot Blanc. This Special Cuvee is hand-crafted from exclusively domaine-grown fruit. Named after Balthazar Albrecht, who settled the Lucien Albrecht Estate in Orschwihr in 1698, the Family-Estate is still located at the same place since that time. This finely crafted wine is made from old-vine vineyards from a careful selection at the time of the harvest. Unoaked.
2005 Lucien Albrecht Reserve Riesling:100% Riesling. This Special Cuvee is hand-crafted from exclusively domaine-grown fruit. This finely crafted wine is made from old-vine vineyards from a careful selection at the time of the harvest. Unoaked
LOIRE VALLEY 2004 Philippe Poztier Quincy : Intense Sauvignon Blanc fruit with a mineral almost gravelly character, Sancerre style wine at a more reasonable price from a small domaine.
2004 Domaine du Closel "Clos du Papillon" Château des Vaults Savennières: 93 Points - Wine Spectator Savennières, compared to most wine wines and nearly all Chenin Blancs, is exceptionally dry, and the Clos du Papillon (the Papillon name is derived from the butterfly shape of the vineyard) is no exception. This wine is hand-assembled, the result of selective (and multiple) late season pickings from vineyards that, though small, represent a variety of soils and micro-climates.Drink now through 2012. 300 cases imported.
2005 Domaine Philippe Delesvaux Coteaux du Layon Saint -Aubin: 92 Points - Wine Spectator "Wins on just power right now, with dried apricot, mango, honey and spice notes. Thick and concentrated, this is impressive, if a bit monolithic. Certainly worth cellaring to see if the bass can find some treble for better nuance. Best from 2004 through 2008. 50 cases imported."
2004 Domaine Philippe Delesvaux " Clos du Pavillon" Coteaux du Layon Saint -Aubin: 93 Points - Wine Spectator Pure and precise, with apricot, persimmon, fig and dried tangerine notes riding atop lacy acidity and a fine, minerally spine. Beautiful balance, with the flavors playing out on the finish. Drink now through 2013. 300 cases made. –JM
2002 J.Y.A. Lebreton Domaine des Rochelles: Small domaine run by Jean-Yves Lebreton, and planted on the well-drained slate soil of the Côteaux de l'Aubance. Elevated on merit to the status of Anjou-Villages in 1991, they produce more robust reds than those of Saumur and Touraine. Jean-Yves Lebreton and his family produce this full flavoured wine with all the classic raspberry and cassis fruit character associated with the Cabernet Franc variety, plus a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon for added structure.90% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
SOUTHWEST REGION,FRANCE 2006 Domaine De Pellehaut Côtes de Gascogne Cuvée Harmonie: Made with 40% Ugni Blanc, 20% Gros Manseng, 20% Colombard, 15% Chardonnay and 5% Sauvignon Blanc.
2005 Domaine Guilhemas Bearn Blac: Made from Raffiat de Moncade, exhibits a clean nose of fresh white fruit (white peach, pear) and a pleasing, dry finish.
MOSEL-SAAR-RUWER 2005 Dr. Pauly Bergweiler Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett Riesling:92 Points Wine Spectator Dr. Pauly's pride and joy, his 4.6 acre Berkastler alte Badstube am Doctorberg vineyard facing directly south, yields some of the greatest wine from the Moselle valley, year after year. It is the neighboring vineyard of the Bernkasteler Doctor and is only planted with Riesling vines which are more then 35 years old. It is a full-bodied wine, rich, complex, with great depth and charm as it ages. Dr.Pauly-Bergweiler is the only wine-maker selling "Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg" in the US. The Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg wines have always had a very long potential and mature to greater heights as they age.
2005 Dr. Pauly Bergweiler Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Riesling:96 Points Wine Spectator Apr 30, 2007 "This is a notch up in concentration, combining apricot, lime and vanilla flavors with honey and spice from botrytis. So rich, like apples simmered in brown sugar and cinnamon, yet there's a submerged structure that makes itself known on the finish. Best from 2009 through 2030. 300 cases made." -BS
2005 Weingut von Hövel Scharzhofberger Auslese Riesling:94 Points Wine Spectator von Hövel's array of wines from the 2005 vintage are all superb, aptly defining the dynamic expression of the Saar with their beautiful, captivating flavors and intense levels of minerality. Those from the great Scharzhofberg vineyard really accentuate these characteristics, adding another level of extract and punch of flavor, yielding wines of superb sophistication.
