All:

A friend of mine asked me to post this. Michelle is one of the consultants at the San Francisco Wine Trading Company. I'm sure some of you already know her and know that she is has an incredible palate and is a warm and generous person. She is organizing a wine dinner to benefit a documentary film which will be shown to the United Nations. Oprah has already booked the filmaker and the hope is that the documentary will raise awareness of women's issues and other issues stemming from the HIV epidemic in Africa. She listed her last name and both her work and home phone numbers in the e-mail she sent me. I have omitted her last name and home phone number from this post but will supply them if need be. I hope you will all seriously consider this fundraiser....

I am writing to you today on behalf of Beatrice Were and the thousands of other widowed, HIV+ mothers in Northern Uganda who are trying to survive in a world of inequity, stigma and at times, utter hopelessness. With your pending support and the pledged support of Bi-Rite Market, Monterey Fish Co. and chef, Dave McElroy, Chesley Chen and I are hosting a wine dinner in order to fund his highly-anticipated documentary film, Memory Book, A Mother's Words.

Chesley and I plan on raising between $15,000 and $20,000. I realize that this is an ambitious figure, but I have the confidence that together with your help, and the help of many others like you, we can come very close to reaching this target goal.

I am circulating this invitation to friends, family members and clients with four goals in mind:

1. To increase awareness of this growing epidemic
2. To sell each of the twenty seats for this private wine dinner
3. To generate a donation base for individuals interested in contributing but otherwise unable to attend the dinner
4. To secure three bottles of wine for each of the eight courses through the generous donation of folks like you (if this interests you, I will forward you a copy of the menu)

So there are four ways that you can personally make a difference...I hope that at least one of them appeals to you and is within your means.

Thanks in advance...Please call or email if you have any questions. All donations should be sent to the San Francisco Wine Trading Company, to my attention (250 Taraval Street, San Francisco, CA 94116).

All the best,
Michelle

After re-reading Michelle's e-mail I realized valuable info was left off (like when/where the dinner was going to be) I'll get that info for you ASAP.

Thanks for posting this Whiner, I've been meaning to do so but hadn't gotten around to it. As for specifics, from the PDF:

Quote:

You’re cordially invited to attend an eightcourse dinner prepared by private chef Dave McElroy in his elegant Glen Park home on Sunday, December 3, 2006.

I can't attend this dinner because I am already committed that evening but I think it is a worthwhile cause and encourage people to consider attending (assuming that it is not already sold out). I donated wine to match two of the courses.
