Participating Wineries
Domaine Carneros
In the heart of the Carneros appellation stands the majestic chateau which houses Domaine Carneros winery. Claude Taittinger, president of Champagne Taittinger, traveled in the Carneros as a young man and recognized the potential of this beautiful area to produce world class sparkling wines. With the completion of Domaine Carneros in 1989, his dream of a California prestige winery became a reality. Domaine Carneros stands as testimony to Champagne Taittinger's devotion to the creation of fine sparkling wines, and is considered the landmark of the region.
Gloria Ferrer
Sparkling wine on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 list! For nearly 20 years, Vineyard Manager Mike Crumly and Winemaker Bob Iantosca have worked as a team. They have adhered to the three winemaking tenets the Ferrers brought with them from Europe: hand-harvest the grapes, deliver them to the winery in small lots and press them gently. These old-world practices remain the foundation for the creation of Gloria Ferrer’s méthode champenoise.
In 1982 the Ferrer family, proprietors of the world’s largest producer of sparkling wine, Freixenet U.S.A., purchased 250 acres of land in Sonoma’s Carneros wine district where they planted vineyards with the traditional sparkling wine grapes of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 1986 their state-of-the-art winery, with Spanish-style architecture and breath taking Vista Terrace, which overlooks the estate vineyards and the rolling Carneros hills opened to the public. The winery was named after José Ferrer’s beloved wife.
Henroit
From the Champagne region of France.
The Henriot family has been established in Champagne since the 16th century. In 1808 the family began to sell this very private Champagne HENRIOT. From that date the Henriot company is created and till today it is managed by those who bear this name.
The Henriots have been growers in Champagne since 1640. Joseph Henriot ran Veuve Clicquot for eight years but returned to the family’s marque in 1994. The strength of Henriot rests in its 220 acres of vineyards that includes prized sites in the crus of Le Mesnil, Oger, Chouilly, Avize, and Vertus. Their holdings account for three-quarters of their production requirements and include a high (40%) portion of Chardonnay, a factor which gives Henriot Champagne their subtlety, freshness and verve, as well as the foundation for extended aging after disgorgement.
The grapes selected by the house of Henriot are of the two finest varieties in Champagne: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They are picked from the best terriors within the Côtes des Blancs, the Montagne de Reims and the Marne Valley.
Champagne Henriot slowly ages in the cool, calm obscurity of the Gallo-Roman cellars in Reims. This process can last anything between three and ten years, sometimes more.
During three to ten years or more, Champagne Henriot slowly matures in dark and quiet vaults, which the Gallo-roman people have dug in Reims region.
Iron Horse
Their Sparkling Wines are remarkable for exceeding the French standards for vintage quality. None of the cuvées undergo malo-lactic fermentation. The richness and creaminess come from extended aging on the yeast in the bottle. The Wedding Cuvée is aged on average three years; the Classic Vintage Brut is aged four to five years and the LD (Late Disgorged) is held for seven to eight years. To quote Robert Parker: “These impressive sparkling wines…possess more texture and flavor than just about any sparkler…from California.” Iron Horse was also recently named by Wine and Spirits magazine as one of their top 100 wineries of the year.
Mumm
Before Mumm’s masters begin the wine making process, each vintage starts with what Mother Nature gives us. Mumm Napa sources grapes from the cool southern Carneros region, Yountville’s warmer climate and the hot mid-valley Oakville and Rutherford regions. Each of the areas lends different characters to the wine. Carneros offers flavors of lemon/lime, Yountville adds an apple/pear taste, while you can savor kiwi and other tropical flavors stemming from the mid-valley. Mumm’s long-term relationships with top growers ensure that excellent grapes are continually available.
One Mumm’s primary sources of high-quality fruit comes from their own Devaux Vineyard, situated in the Carneros growing region. The vineyard possesses some of the finest, most ancient soils, including the first limestone outcropping found in the area. Limestone is a major component of the soil in France’s Champagne district, creating depth and richness.
Traditionally, grapes used in sparkling wine, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, are picked at a lower harvest. The grapes can then retain the crisp acidity allowing for power, finesse and balance.
Mumm Napa combines technological innovation with traditional care in the vineyard. To preserve quality, our grapes are handpicked and placed into small, molded plastic containers, affectionately known as "Famous Yellow Boxes." Their simple, clever construction keeps the berries from being crushed and in prime condition for the presses.
Robert Hunter
The 1997 Brut de Noirs is a classic blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Crafted in the traditional methode champenoise and aged ‘en tirage’ for four years, this ultra premium sparkling wine is a wealth of complexity. The extended tirage adds complexity, balance, richness and depth to the finished wine.
The name, Brut de Noirs, was conceived by Robert Hunter Winery to describe the unique style of Sparkling Wine. The Chardonnay captures the clean crisp quality of a Brut while the Pinot Noirs rounds out the flavors and softens the tartness. The blend strikes the fancy of the traditional as well as the new Sparkling Wine drinker and is appropriate for any occasion, everything from thirst quenching to Silver Anniversaries!
We are proud to say that the 1997 Brut de Noirs is a Gold Medal winner. We are also happy to announce the 91 points this wine received from the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. You will find that we were at the top of our class by logging onto www.tastings.com. (In their words, exceptional!)
Schramsberg - America’s First House of Sparkling Wine
In 1862, German immigrants Jacob and Annie Schram established Schramsberg as the first winery with vineyards planted on the hillsides of the Napa Valley. With the help of Chinese laborers, vineyards replaced scrub oak, and a network of underground caves was tunneled into the soft, volcanic rock.
In 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies assumed stewardship of the winery with the mission to produce America's first methode champenoise sparkling wines, using the noble grapes of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the classic, old-world tradition. Each vineyard would be vinified separately to create small, individual lots of base wine, then painstakingly selected and handcrafted into America's artisan sparkling wines.
The spark that ignited the American sparkling wine industry in 1965 continues to burn in the second generation of the Davies family to helm the winery. Today Hugh Davies, President and Winemaker of Schramsberg, is devoted to carrying on his parent’s vision: to create America’s premier sparkling wines. Our winemaker’s passion for constant refinement of vineyard sources and winemaking techniques is captured in each bottle. The resulting refinements to our original vision are evident each year in our new releases. We invite you to share in this American tradition by enjoying our proudly crafted sparkling wines.
Tattinger (France)
Located in the great regions of wine-growing Champagne, the Taittinger Champagne vines cover 288,84 hectares in 34 different vineyards.
The varietals grown are 47.2% Pinot Noir (136,32 ha), 16.2% Pinot Meunier (46,74 ha) and 36.6% Chardonnay (105,78 ha) - a good reflection of the style of wines produced by the House and in which Chardonnay plays an essential role. Collectively, only 27% of the vineyards of Champagne are planted with Chardonnay.
The vineyard’s own production is supplemented by contractual acquisition of grapes from independent suppliers operating the finest vineyards in Champagne.
In proportion to its size, TAITTINGER is, among the great Champagne brands, one of the largest buyers in the Côte des Blancs, home to the finest Chardonnay vineyards.
Veuve Cliquot
In 1775, they put their mark on the history of Champagne by being the first to ship Roset Champagne. Faithful to it's motto, “only one quality, the finest.” It’s vintage Roset has been praised throughout the world.

Greetings:
Join us Wednesday, November 1st, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Adam Lee to our Wine Bar to present a flight of Siduri Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs. Who would have thought that a couple who met working at Neiman-Marcus in Texas would eventually become one of California’s top Pinot Noir producers? Well, that’s just how Siduri came to be. Adam Lee was working in Neiman’s Wine department and Dianna Novy in the Epicure department when they discovered their mutual love of pinot noir – and each other! A trip to California’s wine country provided further inspiration, and plans to relocate and make wine soon followed. Landing first in Dry Creek Valley, they found work with small family run wineries who taught them everything they needed to know about growing grapes and making wine. In 1994 they launched Siduri, which is the name of the Babylonian Goddess of Wine, with their first release of Pinot Noir. A great response to that first wine by critics and an appreciative public encouraged them to expand their selection and explore different terroirs in California. Today, Siduri produces single vineyard Pinot Noirs from 27 different sites, from as far south as Santa Barbara, and as far north as Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We are fortunate to be able to taste some of Adam’s favorites all together in one flight, which is indeed a rare opportunity.
The cost of the flight will be $24 and will include the following wines:
2005 Siduri Pinot Noir Sonoma County, Retail $22 2004 Siduri Pinot Noir Clos Pepe, Santa Rita Hills, Retail $56 2004 Siduri Pinot Noir Rosella’s, Santa Lucia Highlands, Retail $48 2004 Siduri Pinot Noir Ewald, Russian River Valley, Retail $47 2004 Siduri Pinot Noir Arbre Vert, Oregon, Retail $39
See you then,

| Experience A Luscious & Hedonistic Tasting of Rhone Gems
Saturday, Nov.11, 2006 at THE WINE CLUB SANTA CLARA
From 1pm to 4pm $35 per person
2003 Jean-Michel Gerin Cote Rotie $64.99
Gerin is the French winegrower equivalent of Arnold Schwarznegger, he sees a challenge and conquers it. His work starts in vineyards that would make a mountain goat nervous and finishes in his ultramodern winemaking facility, the end result-some of the finest Cte Rties.
2004 Bosquet des Papes Chateauneauf-du-Pape $39.99
( 91pts Robert Parker ) According to Robert Parker: "The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits plenty of licorice, pepper, cherries, and some plum-like fruit with hints of Asian spice and incense. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, and lively with some light tannins. Give it 1-2 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 10-12 years."
2004 Domaine de la Mordoree Chateauneauf-du-Pape 95pts. Parker & Tanzer $86.99
Robert Parker included Domaine De la Mordoree as one of 157 greatest wine estates in his book THE WORLD'S GREATEST WINE ESTATES. The quantities produced in 2004 were extremely lower than usual.
2004 Mas de Boislauzon Cuvee du Quet Papes Chateauneauf-du-Pape $55.99 ( 91pts Robert Parker ) According to Robert Parker: "The top cuvee here, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet, which is from a single vineyard on the high, rocky plateau of Chateauneuf du Pape near Cabrieres and Gardiole, has a saturated ruby/purple color and a tight but gorgeous nose of kirsch liqueur, raspberries, plum, seaweed, and licorice.
2004 Cuvee du Vatican Chateauneauf-du-Pape $52.99
( 91pts Stephen Tanzer ) According to Stephen Tanzer: "Deep, dark red. Pungent aromas of spicy red berries, smoked meat and dried rose. Bright and fresh in the mouth, with vigorous strawberry and raspberry flavors framed by fine, dusty tannins. There's excellent energy and tang to the focused, persistent finish.
2004 Mas De Boislauzon Chateauneauf-du-Pape $29.99
The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape (90% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre) has a deep ruby/purple color and finesse and elegance with its nuanced nose of black raspberries, cherries, spice box, and Provencal herbs.
2004 Alain Jaume & Fils Clos de Sixte Lirac $15.99
( 93pts Robert Parker ) According to Robert Parker: A modern-styled but still classic Chateauneuf du Pape is the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine, which comes primarily from an old vineyard in La Crau (next to Henri Bonneaus parcel) and tends to be a blend based on about 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, and the rest various other red wine varietals from Chateauneuf du Pape. It is meaty, rich, structured, full-bodied, and moderately tannic. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 15 years.
2004 Domaine de la Mordoree Lirac $14.99
( 91pts Wine Spectators editors pick )Offers layers of succulent fruit--blackberry, fig and plum--along with terroir-driven garrigue, mineral and tobacco notes. Long finish has solid grip, but is fresh enough to drink now. Impressive for the appellation. Drinks like a Chteauneuf. Drink now through 2011. 1,800 cases made. --James Molesworth
2003 Da Bourgeat Gigondas $15.99
According to Robert Parker: "The 2003 Gigondas Tradition exhibits a medium ruby color along with sweet aromas of smoked herbs, red currants, cherry, and earth. Drink this medium-bodied, straightforward, pleasant 2003 over the next 4-6 years."
2003 Tardieu-Laurent Bosquet des Papes Chateauneauf-du-Pape $51.99
Tardieu-Laurent is something of a superstar domaine, even more so since lionised by American wine critic Robert Parker who has, it's fair to say, raved about their entire range of wines awarding scores in the mid to high 90's using his famous 100-point system. The domaine is a partnership between Dominique Laurent, one of the hottest names in Burgundy , and Michel Tardieu, a dynamic young winemaker. Tardieu-Laurent are very much an "artisan" producer, making between half a dozen and 20 or so barrels of each wine. | | TN posted on Cellartracker "I drink no more than a sponge." Greetings:
Join us Wednesday, November 15th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Bartholomew Broadbent once again to our Wine Bar. This time around, Bartholomew will present a flight of the fabled Port & Madeira from his Broadbent Selections portfolio. Born into the trade, Bartholomew followed his father, Michael, internationally respected wine author, and Master of Wine, into the wonderful world of wine. He left the comforts of his English homeland and went to Canada to work for the Symington family, owner of six Port houses. Upon arrival in Toronto, he was almost immediately summoned to San Francisco to start an import company for the Symington port brands. Ten years later, after becoming known as “America’s foremost Port and Madeira authority,†he decided to produce these lovely elixirs under his own Broadbent label and founded Broadbent Selections. If you’ve ever wondered about the difference between tawny and ruby style ports, or what distinguishes Madeira from sherry, this will be the perfect time to have one of the world’s experts clarify it all for you – and you will taste some delicious dessert wines at the same time.
The cost of the flight will be $32 and will include the following wines:
Broadbent Auction Reserve Porto, Portugal, Retail $24 Ferreira 20 Year Tawny Port, Portugal, Retail $69 Broadbent Madeira 10 Years Old Malmsey, Portugal, Retail $43 Broadbent Madeira 1996 Colheita, Portugal, Retail $44 Broadbent 1994 Vintage Port, Portugal, Retail $85
Hope to see you all there! Debbie, Peter, Bo and the entire FPWM team. | | TN posted on Cellartracker "I drink no more than a sponge." François Rabelais www.tanglenet.com

Barbaresco
Sori Paitin Vecchie Vigne Barbaresco 2001 $45.99
( 93pts Wine & Spectator, 94pts Parker)
Paitin produces wines with uncommon flavor, silkiness and power. Southwest-facing exposition combined with low yields results in opulent, rich wines.
"The 2001 Barbaresco Sori Paitin Vecchie Vigne has the characteristic intensity and focus of old-vine wines, potent, smoky, spicy, and penetrating in aroma, rich in flavor and with the plush texture, the tightly-packed tannins and caressing tactile sensations of perfectly ripe Nebbiolo. It will continue to drink well for close to 15 years." -Wine Advocate
Bricco Asili Barbaresco 2001 Bernadot $54.99
( 90pts Wine & Spectator)
Saturated medium ruby color. Sappy aromas of black cherry and currant. Sweet, rich and chewy, with terrific depth of fruit and texture. Perhaps a bit international in style, but a wine of compelling richness. Finishes with big, broad, very fine tannins.
Barolo
Massolino Barolo 2001 $36.99
(92pts Wine & Spectator)
Aromas of plums and hints of meat with berries. Full-bodied, with soft, round tannins and a long, long finish. Slightly one-dimensional, but clearly outstanding. Always a great value. Well made. Best after 2007. 1,500 cases made.
Paolo Scavino Barolo 2001 $41.99
(93pts Wine Spectator)
Loads of fascinating aromas. Plums, dried flowers and berries. Follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Caressing and refined. Another wonderful Cannubi from Scavino. Best after 2007. Only 275 cases produced.
Fratelli Revello Barolo 2001 Vigna Conca $59.99
( 93pts Wine & Spectator )
Top of the range single cru vineyard Barolo. Starts off with ripe fruit, and floral aromas but develops nuances of leather, dried tea and tobacco on the nose. A heady, concentrated, complex, tight, wine on the palate, Approachable now but probably best after 2008. Perfect for the cellar!
Massolino 1998 Vigna Rionda Riserva $69.99
( 94pts Parker) ( Wine Spectator’s Editors Pick 93 points, $85)
Wonderfully silky and refined with Indian spices, cinnamon, cedar and berries. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a long, long finish. A beauty. Extremely perfumed. Best after 2006. 1,000 cases made. From Piedmont. --James Suckling
Clerico Pajana Barolo 2001 $69.99
( 95pts Wine & Spectator, 92pts Tanzer)
“One of the most gifted winemakers in Piedmont...these are wines of extraordinary richness, amazing aromatics, and sensual personalities that satiate both the hedonistic and the intellectual senses." -Robert Parker, Jr.
Clerico is one of the most respected names in all Barolo, and his wines are renowned for both winemaking of the highest quality and for exceptional character, deriving from outstanding vineyard holdings in five of the greatest crus of Monforte: Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana and Mosconi. | | TN posted on Cellartracker "I drink no more than a sponge." | Woohoo! Cali Cab Smackdown, Stones '06 concert in Oakland, what a month of blast...and here it goes, Winetex.... 1995 "S" Salon blanc de blanc Les Mesnil, citrus, hints of ripe peach, minerals thru mid palate, Perrier, long mineral finish. Quite different than most other fruit forward styles in this tasting flight. One of my fav along with Tattinger Comtes de Champagne. Oh, and the Osetra, creme fraiche over blini was to die for. | | Peel Me A Grape
