| Mondavi Vertical Tasting! The Wine Club Santa Clara Presents: When: Friday July 7@4-7pm Cost: $40 -Robert Mondavi winery has been fashioning some of the top Reserve Cabernet Sauvignons to come out of Napa Valley for years, we were able to secure a small quantity of older vintages(92, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001 & 2002 vintages)....Tasting through Robert Mondavi's portfolio continues to reinforce my impression that this winery is undeniably the spiritual and qualitative leader of that sector of the California wine industry dedicated to producing world-class wines. What is so admirable about the entire Mondavi operation is that they continue to push their wines to higher and higher qualitative levels. Their nearly obsessive pursuit of bottling the wines with no manipulation has led to the majority of Mondavi's white wines being bottled without filtration - an extraordinary testament to their commitment to natural wines and superb quality.-Robert Parker. | Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
Greetings:
Join us Wednesday, July 12th, from 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Italian wine expert Jeffrey Meisel to our Wine Bar. Jeffrey will present a flight of eclectic Italian wines from the Domaine Select Wine Estates portfolio. Domaine Select was founded by Paolo and Allison Domeneghetti in 1999 with the hope of turning Paolo’s passion for wines that express tremendous character, and that speak of their places of origin, into a viable enterprise. A native of Italy, Paolo grew up in the wine and restaurant business. With vast experience on two continents, he has assembled a portfolio of not just good Italian wine, but of true, hand-crafted, estate grown gems.
Jeffrey Meisel joined Domaine Select as the Director of Education and Sales after managing The Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone Restaurant. At the CIA Jeffrey worked closely with Karen McNeil and Joyce Goldstein, two of the most respected women in the wine and food business. If that wasn’t enough, Jeffrey has many local fans in San Francisco who enjoy his wine selections at Delfina and Pizzeria Delfina where he is the Wine Director. Jeffrey will present a mixed flight of red and white wines from all corners of Italy.
Check out the scheduled Wine Bar Events on this page.
Next Events!
The cost of the flight will be $30 and will include the following wines:

| 2004 Dennis Mortet Tasting Saturday July 22nd 1-4 P.M $20 The Wine Club San Francisco 953 Harrison St
Bourgogne Blanc $32.99 Burghound notes- The nose is still somewhat raw and reserved but the sweet, round and nicely rich flavors possess good mid-palate fat and unusually good body for its level, all wrapped in a racy, punchy and mineral-infused finish. This offers excellent quality and is recommended.
Bourgogne Rouge $35.99 BH notes- Deep purple. A ripe and rather grapey nose combines with supple, sweet and delicious flavors that culminate in a textured, racy and serious finish. This offers real size for what this is and overall, this is quite fine and well balanced. Recommended.
Marsannay ‘Les Longeroies’ BH notes- An expressive nose of dark pinot fruit aromas nuanced with warm earth and underbrush notes that leads to suave, sweet and notably rich flavors and a complex and velvety finish. There is a trace of finishing wood and the net impression is a delicious yet serious effort that should offer 2 to 4 years of upside improvement.
Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Mes Cinq Terroirs’ $82.99 BH notes- (from a blend of the 5 vineyards that Mortet used to bottle separately; they are the En Motrot, Combe du Dessus, En Derée, Au Vellé and En Champs) This is aromatically more elegant but less ripe, undoubtedly due to the hail with pretty red berry fruit aromas that are strongly inflected by Gevrey earth notes that merge into admirably pure, precise and beautifully textured flavors that are at once explosive but sweet on the impressively long finish. This is a really stylish wine, especially for its level. Highly recommended as this is easily one of the best villages level wines of the vintage.
Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Lavaux St Jacques’ 1er cru $144.99 BH notes- This is slightly riper and offers a really beguiling mix of red raspberry and hints of black cherry, violets and a touch of spice that introduces fresh, pure and textured medium full flavors underpinned by a seriously complex and persistent finish. Like the Champeaux, this does a slow build from the mid-palate back to the explosive finish. There is not quite as mineral-infused but it's more complex and slightly firmer. A choice.
We hope to see you there! | | TN posted on Cellartracker "I drink no more than a sponge." François Rabelais www.tanglenet.com | |

Greetings:
Join us Wednesday for a spectacular Pinot Noir flight with Brian Talley of Talley Vineyards. Brian’s grandfather, Oliver Talley, started growing vegetables in 1948, in the Arroyo Grande Valley, before it was even classified as an American Viticultural Area (AVA). The Arroyo Grande Valley is in southern San Luis Obispo County, just south of Edna Valley and north of Santa Barbara County. It opens directly to the Pacific Ocean, and is one of the coolest viticultural areas in California. In the 1970s Oliver’s son, Don, watched the fledgling vineyard expansion in areas just north and south of the Arroyo Grande Valley, and had a hunch that wine grapes - especially Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - could thrive just as well or even better on their family farm. After consulting with experts at UC Davis, the Talleys planted a small crop in 1982 and produced their first wine in 1986. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, Talley Vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are among the classiest, most terroir driven wines in California. All wines produced under the Talley Vineyards label are scarce, and all are grown, produced and bottled by the Talley family.
While the Talleys clearly made the right choice by planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the family still farms a number of vegetable crops in the rich soils of the valley floor. Every fall Brian makes a special delivery to San Francisco. With his smiling face, he appears at our door with boxes of veggies for us to take home. Thank you Brian for all your great fruits of the soil!
The cost of the flight will be $30 and will include the following wines:
